Bought the incomparable "Four Four Two" magazine today.Definitely the best football mag around and also the most expensive at £4.10p a time! Fabian Delph is featured in "The Boy's a bit Special" section this month.He has an interesting answer to the question;
"Who has been your toughest opponent?"to which Delph relies;
"Huddersfield's Jim Goodwin was clearly told to man-mark me when we met them earlier in the season and he spent 90 mins kicking me off the park.When we met them in the return game I knew what to expect.It didn't help us as a team though as we ended up losing the return game just like we had the first!"
There are some Goodwin detractors on here but I'm not one of them.I think he can still do a job for us and I don't mean simply kicking opponents.UTT.

If Jim Goodwin can make him cry like a baby, what would Prem league tough guys do to the girl?

When he says "I knew what to expect in the second game" it was evident he did as he spent the whole game watching Goodwin and running away.I forgot he was on the pitch.

With the arival of Kay, it looks like Goodwin will have to work harder than ever to earn his shirt. I thought he had some good performances last year, but he also had some mares, particularly when Mr T played him as a full back. Can hit a good pass from time to time, and as Mr Delph states, he kicked him off the park. Sometimes you need that.

Decent squad player in my opinion, rather play Kay then Berrett though.

Goodwin was my pick for player of the season last year...when played in midfield of course. A midfielder who doesn't bottle tackles and gives 100% most games -- surely this is what most clubs want? The lad could do a job in the Championship no problem.

Yes, job done against Delph.
But unfortunately, 'kicking people off the park' is not what he is required to do week in week out. It's the rest of the job description that he's lacking in.
Far too slow of thought... and personally, I barely think he cuts it in the higher reaches of league one, let alone The Championship.
Just my opinion.

I could see Clark playing Kay AND Goodwin in some of the tougher away games next season. You may say that would lack creativity but surely our wonderful wingers could provide that?

You just dont like Goodwin, do you Reece ? that whats so interesting about the game, no two people see the same player in the same light/ Opinion ! I believe we will be delighted with these 3 new lads, especially Kay and Clarke, my southend mate says he is superb and never gives in !

With Kay and Goodwin in the centre at some of the tougher away games we would have some real steel/backbone in the centre of the park and for once I'm confident that we will boss the home teams about (something we have lacked for many a season). Interesting idea but I feel that we need to strike a balance between tough tackling midfielders and having some creative flair. While i've not seek Kay more than once or twice, Goodwin at least is not a playmaker, thus we need an individual able to play that role. Play both together and I think we could struggle.

Pilks and Roberts on the wings with Simpson battling up front would give us a fighting chance maybe with dare I say young Ainsworth playing off Simpson.
Once that lad (Lionel) has settled he is gonna fly for Town and with pace to burn could be the foil for the aggressive, hardworking Simpson.

Which game was it when Goodwin was given man of the match and responded by pulling his shirt over his head to a chorus of boos? Can't remember!
That game aside I think Goodwin is a very very good back up for this club, based on performances. There is much worse around!
