Please read this link first. www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2009/09/carl_baker_and_stockport_an_ex.html#138740I don't want to take any credit for this, because others have already suggested most of this, but when we play Stockport here can we have some sort of acknowledgement, or, better still, a bucket collection. This is the sort of thing that both brings tears to your eyes and restores your faith in human nature in general and football fans in particular. It would be really nice to do something to acknowledge what is going on at Stockport and to forge links with like minded people. After a great deal of thought I haven't sent a PM - not because I wanted to put public pressure on you - but because I wanted the opportunity for other DATM'ers to support this idea, or, argue against it as they see fit. Very respectfully yours, etc cj01.

So pleased you've done this cj01. Excellent idea and it would be a brilliant gesture to, as has been suggested previously, allow a bucket collection for leukaemia research. I'd like to think that Town are exactly the kind of club to want to support such a show of humanity. I really hope something can be done!

Maybe a collection where half goes to leukemia research and half to YAA as we are supporting them.

It's obvious from both the YAA scheme, Hollybank, and charity awareness in his shops that Dean likes to help out wherever he can with regards to supporting the unfortunate. This would be a fantastic gesture, we all know somebody who has or will suffer from cancer at some time in there lives. By the way Dean, if you read this, sorry for nearly running you over on my bike on Saturday morning.

Couldn't agree more. I hope the guy plays against us, I hope the chap who reads the teams out gives us a chance to give him a warm welcome, and I hope that the club allow a collection or some sort of donation on our behalf.
Really restores your faith in football, let's show people we are not simply a club that has 'spent heavily' over the summer, let's show them we're a well run family club with brilliant fans.

Good spot - says a lot about the Stockport club. With all the charities around asking for help its difficult to be selective and not support a particular one but this is one that affects most of us at some time (just heard about Patrik Swaze on the news - so even individual wealth is no defence) Bucket collection the least we can do at Leeds Road next weekend.

It is a bit of a shame that it hasn't got a more prominent place on the Beeb website - although I suppose it doesn't involve the big four and/or lots of money!
Would be good to do a combined leukemia/Air ambulance collection, as mentioned above.
Not too sure we could do a card though as people would think Deano was trying to promote Card Factory.

A percentage of the money from people buying a ticket solely for this game goes to this cause, this might give more people the incentive to come and watch if it is advertised about giving a percentage donation, or would this be too complicated to work out?. And of course a bucket collection.

I would be pleased and proud if we were to hold a collection in relation to Baker.
I think it would be a great gesture for our club to make.

My wife buried her Auntie yesterday after she had been diagnosed with Leukemia 6 weeks ago.To support this young man and his efforts to raise both awareness and cash would be a fantastic gesture by the club. It's a great idea cj.Well done.

Exactly why I support my home town club - just like Stockport and countless others in the football league - they do things right.
None of the celebrity culture, none of the mindless, stupid antics of a few idiot overpaid nancies and clubs only interested in the next dollar.
Well done to Carl Baker - his brother can be very proud of him.

Maybe Huddersfield can play in the Pink Kit for the Stockport Game unless Stockport play in theirs, it would raise the issue all across the media that clubs are supporting other clubs. Really hope the club do something to help out!!

Do we think an email to the club/Sean would be a good idea and maybe just send a link ti this thread to show the level of support for it. I'm sure they would be in support anyway. I'll send the email if somebody posts Sen Jarvis' email address Just to make sure the idea gets heard in good time

I'll send the email if somebody posts Sen Jarvis' email address Just to make sure the idea gets heard in good time I rang the club this afternoon but Sean Jarvis was in a meeting. I left a message for him, asking him if he would be kind enough to take five minutes to read this thread. I also sent a PM to him the other day. I'm reasonably confident the ideas will have got through to him but whether or not he and Dean Hoyle feel able to do something, I don't know. We can but hope.

As terryetc said earlier, both have been on the site recently, Deano this lunchtime. It may have been an idea they already had, but hopefully this thread will show them there is support for a gesture of some kind.
I said earlier that I hope the announcer reads their team out properly rather than just flying through it as he usually does. I'm sure the whole ground would applaud the lad. You know what, I think I'd probably stand and applaud him if he scores against us, similar to the Orient fans for Boothy's 150th. Obviously different circumstances but it's all sportsmanship at the end of the day.
On a lighter note, if I have a pic of Deano as my signature, I wonder if he would like one of my holiday snaps or wedding pics for his? It's only fair.

I think it's a really good idea to do a bucket collection and I hope Dean & Sean will give the go ahead to do it. I know the club are looking to raise money for Keep it Up all season but when something like this happens then it will look good for the club and help others out.

All the cyclists should ride over to Stockport and give their squad a backy over to the Galpharm.
Should raise a few quid.
