When will booth retire? I say this because using booth up front is not the best way forward in this season. He has not scored much and AR should not put him in to help us defend better. We have Ronnie wallwork who is good in air to do booth job in dealing with set play. We use Beckett
Best way out of this is league is to have strikers with lighting quick pace and a good finisher in this league. One example of this is scunthorpe last season and this also season with Leeds beckford and Kandal. P.S THATS WHY AR GOT CADAMARTERI AND THEN JEVONS UP FRONT TOGETHER
So when booth retires expect town to score goals and have more pace and movement upfront rather than having a target man like Booth

Poor old Boothy's getting some stick on here today!!!
I don't know the exact stats (has CAHIRST made an appearance on this board yet!?) but I would hazard a guess that we've won more games with him than without him this season!!!

This came up in another thread, and it seems a few are out to get him. Over the last few matches we have won more than lost with him in the team and would go as far to say that if he had not played we would now be in serious trouble and that Jevons and Cadamateri are not the answer. Jevons and Booth could be a decent combo once they get on the same wavelength. Boothys strengh is in the air, his holding up the ball and distribution. Every so often hes out of the team but eventually has to be brought back in. Yes his days are going to come to an end and I would like to see him replaced with the same type of player. I think there are other areas in the team that have much deeper problems before we consigne Boothy to the scrapheap

he hasnt been helped by a general lack of quality balls being played into the box where hes at his best-you could be the best striker in the world, but if you dont get good enough service, you aint gonna score the number of goals you know you can

I would be very suprised if Booth is still playing for Town this time next year
Frankly I'm suprised he's made it to 34 in the professional game with his knees.
He will be a massive miss when he hangs his boots up
I think Jevons and Cadamarteri are good but no where near as good as Billy Sharpe and Andy Keogh, two players ironically Scunny bought with the money they made from playing Chelsea in the FA Cup!

The amount of people who slate Boothy always amazes me. He is instrumental in the team, at times he is our best defender and he is the best hold up player at the club. He rarely loses posession and has an excellent first touch. It would be quite interesting to see how many goals he would score if we got decent service in the box rather than him having to do a lot of work out of it. Thats an issue for the midfield.

never he is immortal and will play 4 eva he has another 3 seasons left in him so just give it a rest if it wasn for booth this season we would be bottom of the league every sodding year its the same, and every year I tell people they will be proved wrong and guess what they are when and thats when he does retire it will be a monumental lose to this club so just thank your lucky charms he hasn't that is all

oh f**king wonderful!!! it's the scapegoat patrol out to get of one huddersfield town's greatest players EVER!
true he's getting on a bit, but that's no reason to get rid of him. we should drop his wages and offer him another one year contract. we need leadership. he has it. we need aerial presence. he has it. we need players who actually WANT to play for huddersfield. he does.
this board is a complete and utter sham and the people who are slagging boothy off should basically get off his back.
it's true that he has seen better days, but he is still capable of doing a job when required. i personally wish we had a whole team full of boothy's. we need lose from time to time, but at least we know that the team would have gone down fighting.
RANT OVER!!!

I would sign boothy up for next season he is still carrying less fat than beckett and is the better striker.

CAHIRST is here - new name on this board
Here's the stats, make of them what you will:
Andy Booth starts:
P12 W7 D0 L5 - F19 A19 GD0 PTS=21 (Goals for/game=1.58 PTS/GAME=1.75)
Andy Booth does not start:
P12 W3 D2 L7 - F7 A19 GD-12 PTS=11 (Goals/game=0.58, PTS/GAME=0.92)
The biggest stat from that is when Boothy has started we have gained 0.83pts/game - almost doubling our points record. (2 wins with boothy were in the cup, 1 defeat without him was in the cup)
Or perhaps more worryingly, when boothy hasn't started we have only scored 7 goals in 12 games compared to 19 in 12 when he has started. We have scored an extra goal every game when boothy starts
Its pointless judging Boothy on goals scored - you have to look at the bigger picture -How many he scores -How many he assists (both goals on saturday came from his headers from long throws) -How many goals we conceded from set pieces ...we haven't since boothy returned to the starting line up. 5 mins after he was subbed at swansea, they scored from a set piece. Before he returned we had conceded something like 1 in 8 of all headers conceded in the league. Coincidence? Problem is, its not only wallwork we have, its mirf, its clarke ...but they don't take responsibility to attack the ball the way boothy does.
-His hold up play and general contribution - i find it worrying in games boothy hasn't started we have scored 1,0,1,0,1,2,1,0,0,1,0,0....we have fired blanks in 6 games he has missed. Its a shocking fact!
In fact its pretty diabolical that we have to rely on one man so much!

Here's the stats, make of them what you will: Andy Booth starts: P12 W7 D0 L5 - F19 A19 GD0 PTS=21 (Goals for/game=1.58 PTS/GAME=1.75) Andy Booth does not start: P12 W3 D2 L7 - F7 A19 GD-12 PTS=11 (Goals/game=0.58, PTS/GAME=0.92) Coincidence? Not necessarily all down to Boothy's prescence?.....unless there are stats to back that up? Let's face facts..... he isn't a cheap option, he doesn't score many goals, he aint fast and he is a 'legend' (although if he's classed as a legend, god only knows what some of the players of the past should be classed as!) But..... he does give his all in every game, he is an extra defender at times, and he does win a few headers on the half way line Is that enough to include him in the team? Shouldn't forwards be picked for the goals they score rather than their defensive capabilities? IMHO we have 3 better forwards (in the proper sense of the word) at the club.....they will all score more goals than him this season, and as such they should be in the team before him. By all means put him on the bench though and bring him on for the last 20mins. People have to face facts that Boothy can't go on forever. There will come a time when he has to give it up. IMHO in the long term interests of Huddersfield Town that time is May 2008.....and he can then become an ambassador for the club going into it's centenary season. He won't be a coach.....Ritchie has asked him......but he has no desire whatsoever to do so apparently.

Unbelievable!!!....we should'nt even be discussing the reasons why Booooooooooothy should be in the side or not! I echo words above - just look at his all round play, he has never been an out and out goalscorer bar 1 season with Rocket Ronnie but if he isn't in the team then we concede from set pieces and the ball comes straight back from the front line as no one else can hold it up like him. We know he can't shoot to save his life and he can't run but he is just about the most important player in the side at the mo. All I can say is I just wish some of the other players gave as much as Legend for those Blue & White stripes!!!! Lay off cos mark my words we WILL miss him when he packs in and we will have to get another target man in his place. Booooooooooooooooooooothy

I think Booth is his own man and will retire on his terms, this summer.
Everyone goes on about his injuries, imagine living with them. Waking up aching on a Monday and running your body down even more before getting a further battering on a Saturday!
The bloke recently injured himself picking up his kid!
Booth will be riddled in arthritis when he's older. He’s doing his long term health no favours and there comes a time when you can do without putting yourself through the aches and pains of the day to day grind of a battling target man!
He’s financially secure, his status as a Legend is assured and he’ll want to go out on his terms, as a first team regular and not some bit part player.
Like I say I fully expect him to call it a day this summer

Eat Humble Pie are the words that come to mind but I bet the anti Booth brigade will keep their heads down How very predictable!! Well done Andrew 'The Legend' Booth on his remarkable feat of scoring 2 goals in one game. I'm well impressed...no, honestly i am!! It almost justifies his wages doesn't it Did his defensive capabilities pay dividends too? I now truly hope he plays till he's 60....no, sod it....till he's 70!!.....he's a legend and should never, ever, be dropped! Is that enough humbleness?

I reckon his wages are justified, if he can play until 70 Ill have the same operation, cause thats a bloody miracle. Dropped he has been before and will again but thats down to the manager. My point was that people seem to be ready to slaughter Booth when there are other bigger problems to address. But heh we are all town fans, all with different opinions, which makes the game the way it is. Merry Christmas to you and ALL Town supporters

Andy is a player who always gives 100%, one of few players at Town who do. Perhaps he should be more of the super sub option but I'm not too bothered as I like to see players giving it their all and boothy always does and gave us 2 goals today. The man's a legend.

maybe i don't remeber correctly, but didn't Booth renegotiate his contarct at one point to spread his wage over an extra year effectively playing a season for nowt?
me thinks the bloke might have problems walking by his fifties,
for both these deserves any money he gets. ill even forgive him his childrens silly names.

He did yes.....but even then he was, allegedly, still by far the highest player on the books. I'm not sure but I think he's had a contract extension since then anyway. But it runs out in the summer, so only time will tell what the future holds.
