Grand-daughter came home from School today.. Apparently her school have been given 40 tickets.. They have been doing several questionaires over the last few days and some of the children have taken letters home to their parents. Probably asking if they are alright to go. The pupils who didn't make it are well chuffed that they are to be invited to an home game if they are interested. Liking that last sentence too. Doesn't really cost anything to the football club but a great gesture away from the headline one of 'taking some kids to Old Trafford'. How are they 'selecting' so-called 'needy' kids? Is it from those on free school dinners or something?? Rather than the alternative..."this kid is a trouble causer and needs to be rewarded with something as encouragement to behave as per the vast majority". Hopefully there is some sensible whittling down taking place and the vast majority of these kids are those that haven't been able to attend a football match before and will be totally blown away by the occasion. Handy as well that schools break up tomorrow...~1000 kids are going to have an easy task in their "write up what happened to you over the break" type bit of work they always get after a holiday!? |

I used to hate it in my school (Almondbury) where bad kids would get huge rewards for just behaving normally. Good kids get nothing. So I hope tickets are going to those who genuinely could never afford to go but behave well and work hard. |

I'm sure the selection process is not perfect. Nothing is. Let's not worry about it, most of the kids who get to go probably deserve it and that's good enough for me.
