What an absolute disgrace an organisation such as FIFA with absolutely no credibility in my eyes feel they can disrespect our national heroes by banning a poppy on the England shirts for the Spain game on saturday. Sepp Blatter & the rest of them can go take a run & jump as far as I'm concerned.

They shouldn't even has asked and just done it regardless. FIFA already has a massive image problem, them kicking off about it afterwards would have done them no favours at all.

I say just wear the poppies anyway, what's the worst FIFA are gonna do? Nothing more than a pocket money fine, a price worth paying.

Isn't the problem that we might play germany once in November, and we can't offend the poor Krauts.
Or did that come to me in a dream while I was eating turkish delight

What they don't seem to realise is that remembrance sunday is to signify everyone who has died in conflicts, not just UK soliders and not just the World Wars, and the Popoy is it's symbol.
Hence the presence of all the different nations at the Remembrace Service.
What England fans should do is to make a huge Poppy from coloured cards in the stand as they do with flags etc.

I may be in the minority here, but I can understand where FIFA are coming from. If they let the British teams break the rules, other countries may want to wear symbolisms of their struggles against other countires etc. Football is one way that encourages peace with other countries (in most cases).

They say you can't have anything which can be classed as a political, religious or commercial symbol on the shirts. Political? I don't think so personally. Religious? No. Commercial? Not in my opinion. For me it's none of those things, and it's quite simply nothing more than a way of showing respect to those who've fallen in battle. Like others have said, what's the worst FIFA are gonna do if we did wear it? They're hardly going to turn round and ban us from playing in tournaments or anything significant like that.

I agree that it is not political, religious or commercial. Maybe 'break the rules' was the wrong phrase to use. Although personally I can't see why anyone would be offended by us wearing poppies, I'm sure some countries would use the chance to wear something that other WOULD find offensive.

What happens when a member of the royal family dies or Prime minister... Would a black armband be disallowed?? I totally agree that the Poppy represents many nations other than ours, spanning the entire globe. I'd feel sooo proud if the F.A totally ignored Fifa on this and went ahead with it anyway.

Expect nothing else from FIFA to be honest, They keep proving to be an incompetent organisation over and over again.
I say the hell with it and wear it anyway! Or as someone else mentioned earlier, wear a white armband with a poppy on it, Have them signed and Auction them off for Help for Heroes afterwards.
FIFA can go fuck themselves.

I can see Berty's point here because it could escalate, however, it's not a nationalist thing and if I was the F.A. I'd do it regardless, wouldn't have even asked in the first place. FIFA will just hand out a petty fine (looking at the fines they hand out for racism I'd expect a bill of £3.50 for this). Not a chance the F.A. will do it regardless though.

Minutes silence before relevant matches. Observe that and i don't have a problem.

If you cant pay your respect for the 100 million people that were killed in both world wars, then its a sad day. Blatter is a prat of the highest order and his Little Switzerland were neautral in the war, so the man doesn't have a clue.

And FIFA have confirmed that they're not budging on the ban. If they wore poppies then the referee could stop the players from going onto the pitch.

All they ever dish out for racist chanting is 5,000 Euros so it's hardly going to be worse than that.

The daft thing is they can wear poppies on their training tops when standing for the national anthems. So if they can go on the pitch and wear something with a poppy on then, knowing it'll be shown all over the world, why can't they wear them on the shirts too? It's a load of absolute bullsh*t. I'd tell them to wear them anyway. If the referee says they can't go on the pitch wearing shirts with a poppy embroidered on, then just say "fair enough, we're making a stand, we'll not play the game". Given UEFA and FIFA's embarassingly pathetic fines they've given to countries FA's for racism, what's the worst they're going to do to us for refusing to play a friendly game because of a poppy? Fine us £7.43? I'd tell FIFA to go f*ck themselves.

I'm all for giving FIFA the two's up. They have politicised football to such an extent it makes the game pathetic
Blatter and organisations like FIFA are symbolic of what's gone wrong in the world. Ken bates has it right with his idea of leaving FIFA with select other counties and leave them too it. What would FIFA be without England, Germany, Holland, Spain, Argentina and brazil?a collection of nothing important....

What's just as ridiculous is that FIFA are basically saying they're allowing us to have a minutes silence before the game on Saturday. Well thanks FIFA for allowing them to show their respect with a minutes silence. Very kind of you. I'd have expected England to do a minutes silence regardless of whether FIFA would've allowed it or not.

LINKSorry - I don't often swear - but FUCK 'EM! Go ahead and wear shirts with PRIDE. What will FIFA do? Kick us out? Go ahead - suits me! What's more important? Keeping Mr Blatter happy or honouring the War dead? :ranting:

'Jeapordising the neutrality of football'.
What the fuck are they on about! I'd love the FA to grow a backbone and just say 'fuck em' and put the poppies on anyway.
So, no poppies then!!

Sorry - hadn't noticed the other thread. BUT - and it's a big butt (*snigger*) - the link I posted was a NEW one as it was only posted at 6:23pm tonight, so it points out the fact that our appeal has been turned down.
