Malwarebytes is a good shout. After that, scotty winpatrol can prevent anything changing your registry, which removes the threat from most viruses, I find.

AVG is rubbish... There are reasons as to why it's free. Malware bytes is a top program that i'd recommend as above... Also I'd run a virus scan from here - housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/After that get Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Having rolled out AV to a couple of companies Kaspersky is the dogs... BitDefender is good as well but stay away from Norton, AVG, Sophos and McAfee. Need any help drop me a PM

I've got something called MS Removal tool that keeps coming up says i have various viruses and spyware and then tries to prompt me to but a product to remove these viruses and spyware etc. This programme then seems to block the ise of things like housecall i can go to the website click to scan then on run but then it seems to get blocked. Is there anyway to sort this out and get my laptop cleaned up as its currently tempting me to throw it out of the window and stick to using my work laptop. Hopefully you or someone on here can help as this is pissing me right off? Thanks in advance

Hopefully you or someone on here can help as this is pissing me right off? Thanks in advance Alright mate. From memory I think I've got one of these before. Think you have to start your laptop in safe mode - then the virus process can't start... If you then go to START > RUN and type in msconfig.exe you should get the system config come up: Within startup you get all the programs which start when your pc starts - have a look through the list and if anything seems suspicious then in startup items untick it... It will also tell you the location of where it's installed. Make a note of anything that you've stopped - restart your PC and if you've stopped the trojan it won't start again and you should then be able to run Malware Bytes/Kaspersky/House Call to get rid of it... Once rid go back to msconfig and restart any items that you've unticked.

I used this to get rid of the MS Removal Tool thingy. www.superantispyware.comStart up in safe mode and try it. It asks for a donation but I just skipped past that bit 'cos I'm tight.

I currently use avast as my anti-virus which I haven't had any problems with so far and comes with recomendations! As HRN said, Kapersky is about the best paid software you can get, never had any problems with Norton either. I had free McAfee from SKy when I joined but it simply holds up : : everytime a virus is near!

If you've got enough space on your hard drive, Install Linux, it free! (Ubuntu is probably the most user friendly) beside windows then you get the benefit of both worlds. Virus free web browsing with Linux and Windows friendly software for everything else, either that or bin Windows and Run Linux. Most Windows software works on it using a free emulator anyway.

Used that to clear up my works laptop today after well and truly screwing it up last night - saved me having to explain how it was fucked to the bosses!

Autoruns Exe, scroll down the list until you see AVG SSTDX and untick it. Hey presto it is gone forever!
