As the title states my laptop is being a real shit at the moment. Every time I open windows explorer it stops working and closes. I've tried looking on the windows help site, but typical of Bill Gates, no use.
I'm sure there are no viruses or other nasties, but the operating system is clearly knackered.
I'm thinking of bunging the recovery discs in and starting again.
Has anyone had any experience of using these, because I don't want to format the lot and then not be able to get it back to a usuable state.
Any help would be happily received.

Can you boot into windows in safe mode? Normally have to keep pressing F8 when you first switch it on and there should be an option to boot in safe mode. If it lets you you may be able to roll it back to a previous date. Not sure what it is on Vista but on XP if you go in to programs, then system tools there is a system restore option. Go back a week or so (when it was working fine) and see if this sorts it. Saves the hassle of restoring it and losing everything

I used to get that with a dodgy version of Windows Vista Ultimate... In the end I had to upgrade to an authentic version of 7... Not that I'm calling you a crook or anything

Believe it or not, I found a solution on some tech forum. I've stopped the folders displaying thumbnails and touch wood it's sorted.
Microsoft were totally useless of course, but I think I've cracked it.
