What's the best way to back stuff up ?
I've always found CD's to be too small and not worth the hassle.
And those external hardrives are useless. I've bought two in the last six months the first fell on a carpeted floor and doesn't work and the other got a very slight knock and now also doesn't work.

You need an external USB HARDRIVE.
There's loads about and there's some with enormous memories at a reasonable price.
Using CD & DVD as long-term storage devices, especially CD, because as storage devices they're extremely unstable, is not to be recommended.
They're ok for transporting data from A to B or for playing Audio and Video.
