Anybody out there suffering with the dreaded "A CD/DVD Device Driver Is Missing" etc etc when trying to do a 'custom' install of Windows 7? If so have you found a work round? Microsoft seem to be as useful as a Chocolate Fireguard in respect of resolving what is obviously a major bone of contention in their new 'flagship' (Titanic) OS

I know it's not what you want to do but have you tried to install the normal W7 version and it's been successful? Any chance you can install it from an external Hard Drive? Had a quick goose on the sevenforums and this is what came up at first - www.sevenforums.com/drivers/4872-cd-dvd-driver-missing-install.htmlNot much help I know...

Thanks for the help. I have no choice as to which '7' to install. I am currently running XPsp3 and so cannot upgrade - it has to be a 'clean install'. Several forums suggest installing from a USB drive which has been made active via diskpart. Diskpart will not recognise my USB.
I am also led to believe that the error message does not actually refer to a a CD/DVD per se ... what it really means is that the CD/DVD cannot find the appropriate boot manager drivers on the media that is in the drive?
I may be wrong.
In the meantime it's XP
