If it says mac then chances are it might not be a wireless router? Could be a cable dsl router. What ISP are you on?(BT, Virgin etc?) Can you please post the make and model no of your router in question. Summat like :
Netgear WGR614 54Mbps Wireless G Cable Router
etc
cheers

You're looking for a WEP number. Usually written on the box.
If that's not on the box, you'll have to connect to the router from your internet browser.
Usually use 10.0.0.2 or 192.168.1.1 but a quick google search should produce the relevant instructions for your model.

By box i meant router case. On my O2 one its on a sticker underneath.
The number you're looking for is called either WEP or WPA and should be around 12 alpha-numeric characters.
If you can't find that open a browser tab and in the address bar type
192.168.1.1
This should log you into your routers setup interface. You might need an admin password depending on setup. If you haven't changed anything then its usually defaults to User name: "admin" Password: "password".
There should be a tab called security or something similar - your WEP key will be listed on here.
Don't change any other settings or reset your router as this could potentially affect your internet connectivity. When you've found that WEP code just make a note of it somewhere and close the browser window.
When someone want's to connect to your wireless network your router will ask them for that WEP code.
Some routers give you the option of generating a code by typing in your own pass-phrase but hopefully yours isn't like that.
Hope that helps some.

reckon im fucked tbh, just looked at the manual manc put up and found my router online but in the wireless settings it needs a password which i cant remember hence my reason for this post, might just wang it and get another.
the security settings isnt set on wep its on wpa-psk tkip and asks for a passphrase, which i cant remember,if i click the wep setting there is nothing saved,i reckon im knacked cos i cant remember password.....bollocks.

Did you try using the default password? Most of the NETGEAR devices, except ReadyNAS products and Fully Managed switches, have the following default username and password: * Username = admin * Password = password * o For older devices, password = 1234 If that doesnt work there should be an option to reset it to factory settings... kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9665

Have a look at Laptops Direct (Leeds Road) and check out the 'Advanced Search' option on the website. They have a couple of nice Acer Aspires sub £500
