my friends comp. had to be shut down via the plug socket ( not sure why ) when the machine was re-started the usual screen appeared, telling the user of the dodgy shut-down. after the count down to " windows to re start " windows loads for a few seconds Then back to the warning page , and the count down starts again and on and oooooooooooooon thanks in advance for any help ps safe mode and the other options dont work either  |

Hmm does he still have the Windows XP CD? If so I would recommend booting from the CD and running the utility to repair Windows XP - this should hopefully sort it.
