I like Banksy. Bristol City Council are preserving loads of his stuff that is on the side of derelict buildings. There's one just up the road from me that is my favourite. A teddy bear throwing bottles of flowers at the police with the epitaph 'The Mild, mild west' written underneath.
The only thing that annoys me is that the Londoncentric media assume he's only been around for a few years when his work has been in Bristol since before I came here in 1994.

Thats a true point Bris. I was only made aware of him recently but a mate from Bristol told me about him.
I like the rioter throwing the flowers. Would love to see his graffiti in the flesh.

Next time you are over these parts I'll take you on a tour. The grim reaper on the water side of a nightclub boat. The lover hanging from a window as the husband looks out for him. B A N K S Y in big letters on a bridge on the M32 as you approach Bristol (somebody has graffitted over it though, although you can still tell it is there).

Come on, most articles ive ever read on him start like this - "the graffiti enigma that is Banksy (he's from Bristol don't you know)"
see also, Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, Goldie etc...etc...

They do, but the articles didn't exist until he went to the smoke and started graffitting there.

Brispie is right. The world outside Bristol only started talking about Banksy a couple of years back. And so what? Bristol needs a bit of bigging up every now and then or people'll forget it's there. We're not like you northern types who constantly bang on about how good your home towns are

That would be ace Bris, I’ll hold you to that one day.
Do you know his graffiti also appeared in the film Children of Men. He also did the cover for Blur’s Thinktank.

Don't think so, although im from Huddersfield as you know.
I thought it was completely inappropriate for my dad, he's no interest in graffitit or popular sub-culture type stuff at all, I reckon my uncle got it him so he could have a look on christmas day.

Art is not wank, but Wanksy has turned wanking into an art form, the wanker. He can't even fucking draw, can he? He just cuts out photographs and sprays round the bastards - he's the graffiti equivalent of a colouring by numbers book.
Still, if it entertains the braying c**** of Shoreditch and keeps the hoi-polloi out of the National Gallery it's fine by me.

He only does that in order to make a quick get away. How do you post a sodding picture?

I'm fairly sure that this is a wind up on behalf of the promote Brizzle Party. Banksy has been well known for years. Always seems a bit of a cunter to me and to be honest the world would be a better place without any graffiti even if he and some others do some which is inoffensive. I don't buy his "ooh aren't I subversive" stance when he's about the most corporate of artists around.

I'm sure he did the 'Smiley Policemen' on the bridge near my work. He was interviewed on PM on R4 the other week about his work in the West Bank - he seemed sound.
