"We discussed the children. He told us they were leaving theirs sleeping in the apartments. While they chatted on, I ruminated on the pros and cons of this. I admired them, in a way, for not being paranoid parents, but I decided that our apartment was too far off even to contemplate it."
I doubt she's admiring them now...

Let's see now. Decisions decisions. If we leave three pre-school kids in an unlocked apartment that we can't see the entrance to every night while we sod off down the road...
Pros: we can go out on the piss without the annoying kids
Cons: They might wake up terrified and alone, die in an accident, wander off or be killed or abducted by paedophiles before undergoing God only knows what
Yes I can see how you might need to weigh that one up pretty carefully. I know this is all webspazzery but I am mystified why organisations like the NSPCC have yet to come out and condemn this sort of stuff.
Get me on a different topic for Christ's sake

But let's not sight of the important stuff here - Gerry is neither a cynical psycopathic child-killer nor a criminally negligent parent. He is a wisecracking whirlwind of Glaswegian fun with an impressive forehand.

I want winger to do a critique of the writing style. Interesting. Don't you think? She's a writer. Apparently.

winger would be just as angry about her lurid prose as I am about the idea of somebody weighing up the pros and cons of child neglect
