Like awag, has died. Time was when we could have expected Merk to have laid into people for being excessively mawkish about the unfortunate and untimely death of a stranger.
I've seen surprisingly few jokes although I quite liked: Ryan Giggs has said his thoughts are with Speed's wife. Couldn't he have waited a little while longer, FFS the man's only just died?

This was one of those that I know shouldn't bother me, as I didn't know the bloke, but actually knocked me a bit, if only for a few seconds.

I'm biding my time.
People are saying what a great bloke this, great bloke that...maybe...but time will tell.
Of course, those that are close to him have every right to be upset regardless but on account that he wasn't even that good and never played for Stoke then I'm unfussed.
Given what else goes on in the world then it would just be a waste of undeserved sympathy to say anything else.
Wish the best for his kids though.

Apart from the fact he played for Leeds, this puts everything into perspective.

The whole thing proves that if you want to gorge out on rumours, Twitter is your thing. Apparently he was a paedophile, a homosexual, had cancer, was having an affair and his wife was having an affair which would be enough to get anybody to want out. Anybody wanting to get the mongosphere to believe anything, start here.

He didn't do it for a laugh though did he....there has to be some reason and I'll hazard a guess that it wasn't minor.
Not sure how it put things into perspective though.

That's not true merk. People do things for seemingly minor things and sometimes for no reason at all.

I'm not so sure.
I think there are often 'telling' root causes around this kind of thing...especially when they are people that are usually very 'normal'.
Put it this way, I don't believe it's because he was being kept up at night wondering if he should be playing Bale in the middle.
Decent people often find it more difficult to live with 'things' that scumbags don't.
Time will tell....maybe...

I don't want to think that there was some sinister motive behind his suicide.
Something tells me I'll have little choice in the matter

Elt's the expert and it will simply be because the wind changed direction...or maybe he swallowed a fly.

A bloke I went to school with killed himself at 21 because his girlfriend left him. Nothing else. He was your classic salt of the earth kind of bloke who nobody thought would do something like that.
It sometimes only takes something very minor.
However, why do we all need to know?

I'm well aware this is just teh internet and so on, but: Strangely saddened by this, to be honest. Feel bad for Speed's family, and speculation is possibly unusually tasteless in this case and should only be done if it can be done in a particularly clever humourous way. (Traditional Jokes a la AB's are of course to be savoured) Suicide in general gives me the creeping horrors and can indeed come relatively out of the blue, as it were. Anyone affected by it has my sympathy. Well, except maybe the Nazi high command in 1945 and so on, but I hope you get my general drift.

I don't need to know or want to know why he ended his life. It's got sweet fuck all to do with me.
No doubt I'll be minding my own on my commute one morning and it'll be splashed all over the front page of someone's Daily Mai...um...Metro
I was sad that Winger died. I didn't have any compulsion to research the details. I just read the tributes and nodded in agreement

I reckon I only experienced about 1/16th of a proper depressive state for about 3 hours once a couple of years ago. And it was totally self-inflicted. But God it was awful and anyone who suffers from depression proper and is not some idling twonk has my full sympathy.
Even someone that played for the vermin.
I don't want to know why he did it either.
