i'm struggling to work out how a man who spent 3 years waltzing round the dreaming spires with purple dreadlocks can even think to start on HFW..
that said, his tears last night were probably as real as hillary's were.

At least he admits that he has had a privileged upbringing and doesn’t pretend to be anybody else. (Unlike some people I could think of)
Good for him, getting of his royal backside and raising awareness on an issue that your average surf was probably ignorant to.

>a right scruffy git, more of a hippy than a barbour type.
You've obviously never been to a shoot. Most stinking rich landowners look like stinking hippies in hundred year old stinking tweed. It's only the insecure middle and lower classes who feel the need to drape themselves in box-fresh clothes with designer labels to express their income.
edit: it's "serf" you bloody peasant.

Let's all bow down to Bernie, he's been on a 'shoot' with the toffs.

Ive been clay pigeon shooting if that counts?
The 'preaching" accusation is well off the mark, his programmes have always just been informative, not preachy in the least.
I love him you bĂĄstards

I can only assume that the upper middle class toffs are turning on one of their own.

"You've obviously never been to a shoot" Erm, I spent my youth earning £20 a day being a beater. If you think they're full of stinking rich land owners then I'd question if you'd ever been on one? The shoots I've been on were mostly full of locals from the village I grew up in. Was a real collective mix actually, you had the stock brokers and lawyers but then you also had the local builders and landlord. My best mate also lived on a farm that runs a decent shoot so you couldn't be further from the truth Bernie. Don’t be fooled by stereotypes you see on the TV.

I've only ever been clay pigeon shooting, Rich. Well, that's not strictly true, but the only *organised* shooting activity I've done involved clay pigeons.
I don't think I have mentioned toffiness or preachiness as reasons why he annoys. He annoys simply by being himself - personally, I think hating people for talking with their mouth full is reason enough, and certainly transgresses all class barriers. Unlike SOME here, I find myself incapable of hating people for attributes beyond their control such as their perceived social standing, skin colour or nationality. Except shortarses, gingers and the Hun, of course.

Yes it was probably more wilbur with the preachy stuff.
Well if you don't like him for being an admittedly upper class tit, I reckon neither of you have ever really watched his programmes and just don't like the idea of him. He's like a Palin or an Attenborough if you ask me, there's not a lot not to like, either that or you've just decided to be deliciously contrary as usual.

If you think I wrote they were then I'd question if you actually read my post, old thing.
The twatty stockbrokers who are trying for a bit of country cred LOVE to have a real toff (who probably earns way less than them) and preferably some real yokel types along for a bit of authenticity. Or better still, go to a shoot organised by one. which is what we did, mainly because the landowner in question drinks in the local and invited us along for free.
The point was, yer "proper" landowners (i.e. HFW's forebears) are, more often than not, dead scruffy with wildy unkempt hair.
Once again, Rich, I don't hate him for being an upper class tit. Merely for being a tit.
Jesus, are half the words I think I'm typing not making it to the screen or something?

My dad makes a splendid "osso boca" (sp?) which is essentially some Italian peasant version of leg of lamb stew. 6 hours cooking in the bottom of the Aga an absolute necessity. (And the barbours can dry on the rail at the same time!)

You don't need to dry a Barbour, thats the glory of them.
I watched Born Survivor last night, he cooked his lamb in a geyzer. Shirley you could pop down to your local geezer and try this?
