Hi friends
Can any of you computer brains recommend a decent laptop for around £500. I will be using it for work, ipod, watching tv, surfing and storing pictures. Oh, and maybe downloading the odd illegal film or album.

I'm a simple Dell Direct man so would go on there and build your own.

You could do a lot worse than an Acer www.ebuyer.com/product/136387I've got an Aspire 5003 and it's done me good for the past 15 months. A few others I know would recommend them as well.

You can probably get an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad from an eBay retailer for that sort of money. They're very good machines for general use, although probably not the best thing for playing games on. I bought mine off my old boss when I left my job for £200 about 3 years ago and it's still going strong.

Belly -
Assuming from your first post that you have an iPod, with all your iTunes music on it?
When you get your new laptop, download iTunes, then google "Music Rescue" and download that. Then, when you plug your iPod in hold down Shift, Ctrl and Alt (this stops your iPod automatically updating). Then use Music Rescue to transfer the songs from the iPod on to your new computer. I think the new iTunes asks questions like "some songs on this iPod are not on this computer, would you like to copy them" or words to that effect. Click no, it'll only transfer iTunes purchased ones.
And Wa La bingo bango.

Oh, and I got my laptop from Tesco. It's not quite this model, mines slightly better spec, but you can get some good deals on there. direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-5346.aspxEdit: I really need to work out how to do that embedded link thing.

Thanks everybody.
What I need to do is transfer my entire Itunes libary from my old PC over to my new one. My libary is far bigger then my very old Ipod although I do have a new 80GB Ipod so I suppose I could whack it all on there and transfer it over.

Can't you just copy the files from one computer to the other or does iWank have a fit if you try doing that?

My mum wants a new laptop for her extensive hardcore pornography collection - she needs a very basic one. Which of the above will do?

It's not jist Ipods. I've got 4 gig of stuff sat on a sony walkman. Can't do a fucking thing with it because my old computer died and the bloody thing won't upload onto my new computer!
BTW G.T I hope your Tesco laptop was free range. It's a bloody disgrace how they make them things nowadays, I heard there's at least 2,000 indijuns all sat there in swealtering conditions couped up with little or no room to swing a chappati assembling them 23.5 hours a day!
Bloody disgrace if you ask me!

Find the folder on your old pc that has your itunes music files in in. Copy that ontot he new PC. When you plug your ipod into it all of the ones on thre that you ripped from CD will work, all of the ones you got from downloaded mp3s will need to be shown where the mp3s now are (copy teh mp3s too). It will automatically ask you if you want to copy the purchased the ones from your ipod to itunes.
