Black Pete, what a star he is. I've got a feeling that one of their fans also climbed the Leeds Road floodlights during the afore mentioned match from the late 80's ? The match ended 1-1 I think. No it was against Sheff Utd in (proper) Div 3 in1980/81, just after we won the 4th Div, big crowd of 14,500+, we won 1.0 thanks to a Brian Stanton goal. The Blades fan actually stood on top of the light pylon (in the open end, nearest to the seats) and stayed up for most of the 2nd half. At full time he got down to about 10 foot above ground level and escaped the hordes of waiting plod by diving into a group of Blades and escaped - although I did hear he got nicked at Bramall Lane the next week.

my memory is a little different. crowd being around 25,000 and i'd estimate a little under half the crowd was bolton. i was on the terrace with my dad and there were an incredible number of bolton fans there that day. also another memory is the outside wall of the terrave being spray painted with 'MATT - BWFC' and then going to blackpool in the summer and someone had managed to spraypaint the same thing at the top of the black dipper. also remember my dad leaving me by the car at the front of the main car park at the back of the terrace at the end of the game and a group of older bolton fans offering me to one of their young uns to beat up. fortunately he was crapping himself more than me and declined the opportunity and they laughed and moved on (phew!!!)
I was only 11 and sat in the main stand I had a first class view of both the football and the boxing/ burning between the Cowshed/Main Terrace. The crowd was 27,894, we lost 0.1, having won away at last years losing finalists, Fulham, 3.2 in round 3. As I remenber it TOWN had the Shed & Open End, Bolton had the main Terrace (shared with TOWN "families") I can also remember "Matt/BWFC" though not at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
obviously scared by the big dipper, andy. what got me it was at the top of the 1st incline. the dipper slowly climbs up and then goes round some big girder. it was on this girder that it was painted. so all i can think is that they stopped the big dipper at the top and some brave soul got out and managed to paint it. or he got off and did it and then jumped back on the next time it came around.

Another memory I have at Bolton - it was at Burnden Park, not long before they moved to the Reebok.
The referee that day - Gurnam Singh, who earlier in the season had allowed Tom Cowan's goal (scored directly from a throw-in without it touching anybody on the way in) to stand in a televised match against Barnsley.
I can't remember what the score was, whether we played well or a single thing about the game itself. I just remember it as the only time I've ever known the crowd chant the name of the referee before the game.
