Oggy on twitter: #htafc alert: amid the annual summer rumour-madness, a now more serious potential Town target, subject to the usual factors : RICHIE WELLENS Not quite the ambition most will be aspiring for, but we could do a lot worse (Gobern, Robinson et al). Wellens is one of those players that I don't like seeing on the oppposition's teamsheet.

Isn't he a bit past it? Sounds like an inferior Clayton replacement.

He scored against us in the preseason friendly in Portugal. Looks like Robins has found Lee clark's transfer machine...

If this is true the club are clearly struggling to attract any decent quality players. Smacks of a desperation signing if true.

Robins is buying us a one way ticket to League 1. Shall we wait until this signing happens (which I doubt it will) before using it to condemn Robins?

I don't believe this to be true.
We have such strong a transfer policy that Wellens does not fit into I will eat my hat if he signs.

Very odd signing if true. Surely not the kind of midfield player that we need? At 34 he's not going to have the legs to be a box-to-box, and that's what we're missing.

Experienced championship player with a wage we should be able to afford, whats not to like... What does he offer that we don't already have? We'd just be replacing Clayton/Norwood/Hogg with someone who does exactly the same job, but 34 y/o. Not at all what we need.

I don't believe this to be true. We have such strong a transfer policy that Wellens does not fit into I will eat my hat if he signs. On the contrary. I think that Robins is looking for experience to bolster midfield, which may be why the rumours regarding Andrews surfaced. He's wanting somebody with a steady head and a bit of experience. Perhaps Wellens is getting too old, perhaps his legs have gone, perhaps he will be another Barry Horne, but if we do sign him I'll reserve judgement until I've seen him play.
