Boro fans on their forum don't seem best pleased that he could be part of the deal Good sign.

Quotes taken from Boro forum, regarding us signing Coady:
Signed for Huddersfield hope these means we hold onto Butterfield.
Two Different type of players to be honest , but i hope that means the end of any deal for butterfield aswell.
Totally agree i would like us to keep hold of butterfield and i would never understand us using him in the deal for clayton i rate him given a run in the side butterfield could be a quality player for us over the season
Very interesting. If we did get Butterfield as a makeweight in the Clayton deal, and managed to offload Gobern...then suddenly we have a very strong midfield

Jacob Butterfield due for Huddersfield talks - but not as part of Adam Clayton swap deal linkThat link says, in part; "They refused Clayton permission to travel to Teesside and instead called him in for a team meeting before their 2-2 friendly draw at home to Newcastle - although he did not play and was said to have a slight calf strain." While not necessarily believing the calf strain bit (maybe we can take this as code from Town that they don't want to talk about something) it gives lie to the idea that Town were being entirely disingenuous the other night.

Comprehensive write-up and tallies with everything that has gone on You've got to say fair play to Town. We tried to get a bidding war going, but as soon as Clayton said he wanted to go to Boro we drove that deal through. That's how you get respect in the market.

If we End up with Coady and Butterfield in midfield then i would think our days of that area being a bit slow and static could be over. Add to this potentially more goals from that area then maybe loosing Clayton will not be as bad as we first feared!!

Don't forget Majewski, which I believe we have an option to buy after is loan is complete. Definatley the best midfield I can remember, potentially away.

Think we may need to lose a few, I could see Norwood, Hammil or Dixon leaving (although Dixon would leave us short in a back 4) as well as Clayton. Hammill probably with 1million pound interest from Bolton.

Why do they refer to Butterfield as a 'schemer'?

"Forgot to mention him", yes you are right a good midfield for once potentially as you say. Still hope for a good Centre back and good back up striker for Vaughan and we should not be far off!

Just thought, was there any cross over with Butterfield and Robins (and/Hammill) from their Barnsley days?

Butterfield would be a good signing, but I don't want him if it would prevent us from signing a defender or a striker

Just thought, was there any cross over with Butterfield and Robins (and/Hammill) from their Barnsley days? Came into the side under Simon Davies who had worked with him in theyouth set up after his arrival from old Trafford as a 15 yr old. He then excelled under Robins who made him captain at just 21 years old so much like Hammill played his best football under Robins at Barnsley and yes JB + AH played in the same side.

What if Butterfield doesn`t want to move to Town? In fairness the lad has had a good pre season and was probably looking forward to a promotion push only to be told he is being used as a makeweight for a similar player in his position. Town would seem a slightly less attractive proposition but it depends on if he wants to sit on the bench or play games and if he plays well then it could be him moving on in a couple of years for big money. You cant blame him for umming and ahhring.

I expect its money, if it is let him warm the bench for Boro. we don't want mercinaries who are in it for the money we want people wiling to fight for a place in our team, any midfielder coming in now knows they will have to as we have an abundance of half decent - good midfielders, even those that are written off are still not shite although they seem to be averse to performing in our first team at times.

You're right in terms of Simon Davey, but a bit off with the rest. He was first brought into the first team at 17 years old by Davey, but was used sparingly. He did come off the bench at Wembley in the FA Cup semi final in 2008 though under the same manager. When Mark Robins came in (2009-10 season) he picked Jacob in his team initially, and we won games. But once Mark recruited his own players, Jacob became a sub or unused sub in the main. He didn't feature at all in the last three months of that season. The following season he made 42 appearances, but half of them were from the bench. He was always played out wide by Robins much to our dismay. However, he started the last 8 games of the season, and was played in the middle in most, completing 90 minutes each time, which ended the myth that Robins didn't fancy him and that Jacob didn't have the engine etc. That summer though saw Robins' departure over budget restraints. Keith Hill came in, made Jacob captain and built the side around him. He went on to be our key player, playing in the middle, and had scored 5 goals and assisted double that before dirty fcuking Michael Brown crocked him on New Years Eve. If/when he signs for you, you've got a great little player. He and Hammill played together, he knows Norwood from Man Utd youth team, knows Vaughan from Norwich and of course he knows and likes Robins. Yorkshire lad n all. Coady and Butterfield are (in my opinion) both better players than Clayton. You just need work on that defence, as usual. It was never Mark's strong point.
