Cue abuse but for me Powell is a hugely disappointing gamble. We deserve better. Left his last club bottom of the league and recruited countless players and sold them for peanuts (when viewed in the whole). Why are we getting excited about this? Robins was hardly an inspirational appointment but this is even less so. For me, I will have my Saturday's back cos' I ain't handing over my hard earned for this. Of course I hope I am am wrong but after 50 years supporting them this has left me with no desire for any more. Yeah, you definitely deserve better

No abuse, if that's how you feel that's fine and to be honest there's quite a few that sit round me with your attitude that I wish would follow you out the door. By the way if this is the worst you've felt about Town in 50 years I'd be gobsmacked.

WUM?? don't know, and will give you the right to an opinion as other posters will have a right to potentially express their opinion of your churlish stance good luck to you.

Many of you turned on Robins, Grayson and Clarke to name but a few. I latterly voiced my concerns about Robins but never have been one to turn on a manager. For reasons stated I have my concerns over this guy, think they are well founded and find it difficult to reconcile.
I fully expected you to turn again, probably swiftly.

I guess you didn't get the reaction you wanted when you posted to the same effect 2 days earlier in this thread. As I stated then, you claim to be a supporter but writing off a manager before he has (been appointed or) taken charge for a game and refusing to watch thm any more is not exactly what I would describe as being a supporter of the said club. Mr Hoyle referred to the vocal negative minority and you sir would appear to be a fully subscribed member. Enjoy your saturdays ...... you'll not be missed!

Looks like I'm making a return. Hope he has a better time here as Deputy Manager than he did as a player.

I'll be the first to admit that I've got mixed feelings about this appointment, and Powell certainly wouldn't have been my first choice, but some of the comments on this thread are absolutely ludicrous.
Those People (I say people because I don't think fans or supporters is an appropriate term), who are claiming to have watched Town for a long number of years, but are now 'packing it in' or considering going to watch Town instead, purely because of this managerial appointment, have quite clearly lost their marbles.
How can you possibly claim to have watched Town for so long, then go on to claim that this is one of 'the worst times you can remember', or words to that effect?
Absolute bollocks. I refuse to believe for one second, anyone who makes that claim, has been watching Town for more than a few years at best, or if they are even a Town fan at all.

As I said in a previous thread - it's ok to have an opinion even if it's different to your own.
Just because some don't rate Powell doesn't mean they don't support the club.
That's me included by the way - very unmoved by this. Hope I'm wrong of course.
It's shocking some of the stuff handed out to those who don't see this as an inspiring appointment.
Opinions make the forum - remember that and embrace it.

You support the club not the players or manager.

Totally agree, the seasons of 1977/8 and 77/79 were the worst times to be a town fan. I wonder who on here would have given Mick Buxton a chance before he was given the manager job? As I recall he did an OK job for us.

Opinions make the forum - remember that and embrace it. Agree with that but with one minor exception. If people truly stop attending matches because they do not agree with a managerial appointment, they have in effect stopped supporting Town. That to me is going too far, as is saying its the worst they have felt about Town in 50 years. I really don't get that, there have been some real lows even in the last 20 years. My feelings on Powell are he did well at Charlton. Yes it went pear shaped at the end but that is usually why Managers get sacked and by all accounts it was not really his fault. He is not someone that gets me overly excited but I do think he is a solid candidate and we could do a lot worse. He will get my support, despite not being my first choice, and I will give him a chance. I truly hope he is a success and in charge for a long time because that would mean Town are doing well which is the single most important thing to me in the Football World.

I agree in part with some on here about the lack of "excitement" if it is Powell, but he'll get my support. What I dont buy is the "passion" argument from charlton fans especially. He managed his home club where he had legend status almost like boothy does here. Of course he's going to have passion in that job, same as boothy would here, but does it transfer to another club? Mark Lillis has had that effect here now, put him in charge of bolton, would it be the same?? Powell had a Massive wage bill in L1 and after a solid start, struggled in Champ. I just dont see where he fits into hoyles remit of been there done etc. We had the opportunity to make a statement with this appointment but either chose not to or couldn't attract. Hoyle obviously has seen something he likes and i'll go along with that but i just wanted something different.

By all accounts it was out of CP's hands the players coming in etc (bit like Leeds with Italians!) there were loads of Belgian players. They had 5 games in hand when he was sacked too in March... Who knows but reckon he's the best choice out there for our philosophy too

Look, I am not excited by this appointment at all, but still changed my signature to support the club and DH!!!!! Happy to eat my words if he does really well, but he couldn't cut it at Charlton despite large recruitment and we deserve better!!!
