Wonder if we'll ever be told who the two other guys are who allegedly also had second interviews this week? John Barnes and Carlton Palmer

Just had a quick look at the Charlton Athletic forum. A poster there mentioned that Chris Powell lives in Banstead......that's literally just up the road from me! Apparently Hudson comes from Surrey as well.

What does 'rolling contract' mean?
From OS: 'Powell, who will turn 45 next Monday, was identified as the right candidate for the job after a thorough process by the Board and has put pen to paper on a rolling contract.'

Good appointment, always liked and rated him as a player and manager.
Good luck to Mr Powell and good luck to Town.

It means that it's always got the same period left so if it's a three year rolling contract then 2 years later if someone came in for him they have a three year contract to pay up. It can be any term

About time we had a smartly dressed fucker. Totally agree, infact I think there should be a double page spread in Every Matchday Programme, dedicated to his wardrobe. What styles he's currently sporting, a sneak peek at his vast array of flat caps. where he buys his suits. What can we call such an article?

We (Charlton) are in a completely different place now post Powell, and we are having to adapt to new circumstances as you are. Please don't think that Chris Powell (who is actually technically a Tottenham Hotspur supporter) will spend his time yearning for and thinking about Charlton. He will think of us fondly, but I am as sure as set concrete that he will give you 100%, and work with everything he has. Powell will never shirk responsibility or look for excuses, if anything he is harder on himself than he ought to be. Looking at the pictures above even as an old man I admit to having a tear in my eye seeing him somewhere else, it's a shock actually. However I am totally sincere in wishing you the very best with Chris Powell, apart from when you play us. I will be pretty cheesed off if Huddersfield ever lose (and it will happen from time to time) and very happy when you win. Chris Powell is a relative stranger to you at the moment. However reading these boards there are plenty of Huddersfield fans who know their football, and will see the reality unfolding and will make measured judgements on what happens. Please God it works out for Chris and yourselves because you have employed a person so far removed from arseh*les like Liam Ridgewell or John Terry or Harry Redknapp as to be over the horizon. I am going off on one here, but essentially a great club, great supporters, with a great guy steering the ship...all the very best guys.

It can be any term Just sounded like something I've not heard before in relation to managers. Thought it might be a sort of pay-as-you-play/pay-as-you-go results based deal and then we could sack him whenever but good to know we're just covering our own backs.

From OS: 'Powell, who will turn 45 next Monday, was identified as the right candidate for the job after a thorough process by the Board and has put pen to paper on a rolling contract.' As with Robins 12 month rolling contract, it is a contract that will never expire therefore no awkward decisions to be made at a fixed point in the future as every day turns he will have 12 months remaining on the rolling contract. No easy get out by the manager should he be successful or potential signings looking at the length of their manager's contract.

Very happy with this appointment, even more so after reading up a bit on Powell on the piece on the website.
Also, and i'm unsure if this is racist or positive discrimination or what, but I am also proud that we have a black manager at a time when managers who are anything other than white are few and far between in this country.

Hi Fellas. Charlton fan here who I hope you don’t mind adding my own thoughts about Chris Powell. I have been an occasional visitor and poster on this forum as I have got a bit of a soft spot for you guys, mainly because my wife is a Hudders fan. Personally, I think Powell will be an excellent appointment for you. There were times (particularly towards the end) in his tenure at Charlton that the style of football was not particularly pleasing on the eye but I think the main mitigation for this was the fact he was massively hamstrung by the lack of investment within the club meaning that he was really working with at least one hand tied behind his back. I see us as similar sized clubs but you are in infinitely better shape that we were in the latter stages of his time as our manager. On a very limited budget he was generally pretty shrewd in the transfer/loan market . The team of ours that came 9th in 2012-13 was limited in ability to say the least but Powell fostered an excellent team spirit that saw us massively overachieve and it was evident that he has first class man management skills and this really is his main attribute. We were generally very organised defensively and our away record was excellent (a lot of 1-0 wins!). At times it would have been nice for us to be a bit more expansive but I would again link that back to the limitations that he had to face with the personnel in the squad. Having seen you guys a couple of weeks ago, I think you have more going forward that we had at that time so it may not be such an issue for you. As many people have said, you will find few people more respected and well liked in game than Chris Powell and as a result I can see many people wishing you well under his leadership. Admittedly this will not win you matches but it can be reassuring all the same. Enough of my ramblings other than to wish you all the best for the rest of the season (28th Feb excepted of course!). Cheers Tom

Gut feeling is that Mr Powell might just be the manager we and Mr Hoyle has been waiting for. All the hard work of the last 6 years might come to some fruition under his leadership - here's hoping.
He's got some experience, is still ambitious, something to prove and looks to be very happy to be given the chance.
Welcome and good luck Chris...
UTT
