What if he's ideally placed to start a survey? The thought genuinely crossed my mind.

Powell is in poll position. Decision hasn't been made yet contrary to those 'in the know' on here. Pole position... dummy. I thought he was of Afro-Caribbean origin, not Eastern European?

He is, but he spends a lot of time outside barbers' shop dressed in red and white.

Is it not Powell-position? (as in American Colin Powell)

Hi Chaps,
Just a quick comment about CP. Obviously a club legend, so he will always be fondly remembered at The Valley.
i see a few people question his 'man-management' which i can assure you he has in abundance. I don't think there was ever a player at Charlton that wouldn't put in a shift for him. From his recent time as a player and PFA Chairman he is in touch with the requirements and current trend of footballers in this country and those coming from overseas.
Tactically i always found him a man learning. Since he joined and left, he's completed his badges and courses. Substitutions and formations were sometimes a little 'suspect' but i think that was down too the paper thin squad we had and the terrible home surface. He got no backing after our L1 winning season and then once our takeover was complete it was pretty clear that our new owner wanted to ship him out despite any reports suggesting otherwise.
The man is a class act and when a club has found itself in a bit of 'disarray' he's the perfect man to get the players and fans seeing eye to eye again.
A real footballers man and he would quickly endear himself to your faithful.
I think your club would be perfect for him, IF he gets the backing from your chairman. Im unfamiliar with your owner, so i don't know how that would work.
Anyways, see you saturday for the 134th time in the last 3 years and hopefully we can break that 453 game unbeaten run you are currently on! Of course i jest but hope you sort out the manager position soon cos as a fan 'up in the air' is not a nice place to be in.

I will be disappointed if it is Powell. I think Charlton would have been relegated if Powell had stayed there.

... 'up in the air' is not a nice place to be in. Yes indeed. Just ask Adam Hammill after Dale Stephens kicked him there.

We'll know soon enough. Looking at realistic contenders, I'd be OK with Powell, Pressley, Lennon or possibly McNamara, and very much against Warnock, Coyle, Davies, McLeish et al.
Out of the four I like I'd prefer one of the two defenders given our current problems keeping clean sheets.
I'd spend some of the Norwood/Clayton money on a strong, 'organising' centre back and keep the rest of the cash for loan wages, or a dabble in January.
At this late stage in the window we'd have to pay through the nose for a striker with a scoring average above 1 in 5.

Powell is in poll position. Decision hasn't been made yet contrary to those 'in the know' on here. Over here, everyone! Giggity has an 'in the know' claim unlike any other 'in the know' claim. Except his isn't called an 'in the know' claim cos that would make him just like everybody else claiming to be 'in the know' So HIS 'in the know' is FACT... ok? Well if it isn't Mr 'My friends ARE DATM". How's it going Reece?

The list of potential managers is, in my opinion, uninspiring. Those lead the chase according to the bookies are the least inspiring of all. Powell! Good God he has done nothing but strangely seems to fit the profile of the last few choices. Surely not again, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaase

He's been interviewed already and from what I've heard he isn't the man for the job. Lennon has been interviewed and conversations between warnock and pressley too. Obviously Warnock ruled out as well. I don't think Powell is the right man for town I would go for Chris Hughton

Did a great job at Charlton, wouldn't be against him at all. Front runner and probably not being unleashed against his former club at the weekend - unveiled in time for the Forest tie.

I think you'll be right about needing permission from Coventry to speak to Pressley, so for that reason alone I doubt Town have even spoken to Pressley. Besides, Coventry are about to return to their own ground and crowds will probably rocket for a bit, so things are looking up there.

The more I think about it Powell just seems like the most sensible and obvious choice. Whether sensible is what people will want I don't know but I really do think he'd do well here and when I look through the other "candidates" nobody jumps out. The Kluivert thing was ridiculous, Warnock, Pressley, McLeish, Mackay (even before todays events), Mowbray, Coyle, Hart are largely big "no's" for varying reasons. Unless someone comes from nowhere that leaves Lennon who is now favourite for Palace who I think would also do a good job and get us together as a team and Davies who although I think could do well for us I just don't really like.
