Players like Jack Rodwell must be thinking, how the fuck am i not in that squad Cos he fucked off to Man City for a load of coin instead of staying at a team/going to a team where he'd play regularly. Lets see how he does at Sunderland but he put his own International career on hold.

At this point in time there's a very fine line and a bit of luck when picking clubs between being a good English championship player and player in the England squad.

If that is going to the standard of our squad throughout qualifying then we will struggle to make it to Euro 2016

If that is going to the standard of our squad throughout qualifying then we will struggle to make it to Euro 2016 More teams can qualify for the Euros so we'd have to be really bad not to qualify. Poor squad on paper though. Pleased to see Chambers in, think he could be a decent player. Also think James Ward Prowse should have been considered as he was the third best player in the Toulon tournament this summer - www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2645675/James-Ward-Prowse-named-best-player-Toulon-tournament.htmlBy 2016 half the England team could easily be Soton graduates (Shaw, Chamber, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Walcott and Ward Prowse)

get a draw in Switzerland.. roy planning ahead for the easy games??? qualification is vital, the performances in getting it don't matter, similar to getting out of the group once you get to the finals and then the knockout games are just about the result? ? not sure at what point any international we ever play in anger has anything to do with how we play, its just a result.. younger players play in meaningless friendlies where there is little intensity on the pitch but shitloads in the media if we don't win??? as I haven't been selected im retiring from international duty and will not be watching the games anymore if there is something better on another side..

No cleverley or smalling Squad looks fair enough to me. very inexperienced but none of them stand out as someone who shouldn't be there IMO. Colbecks a good player- a grafter and SO much better then Cleverley.

Play the starting 11 from this team against the starting 11 from the France 98 team and this generation would get massacred.
It's embarrassing how far we've regressed. Personally I blame the greedy league, the FA and the newspapers for the international team been on its arse.

Folk were laughing when I mentioned Colback last season, worth having a good look at him in a friendly.
Nathaniel Clyne should have been in there if he's fit.
Good to see Chambers in there and the return of Townsend.
Should be enough quality in there to beat Norway.

There is an option to have a load of potential - limit the squad in terms of age - no-one should be older than Rooney at 28. Milner and Lambert shuold be sacked off now - no business being there. Squad should be young EPL players who can develop.
Joe Hart
Calum Chambers Phil Jones John Stones Luke Shaw
Jordan Henderson Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Raheem Sterling Andros Townsend Jack Wilshere Ross Barkley James Ward-Prowse
Daniel Sturridge Danny Wellbeck Theo Walctot
As a core - the above players are all young, capable and possess quality. England's future....

Oh to have players like Seaman, Adams, Beckham, Scholes, Shearer, Owen. If only Beckham hadnt flicked his boot out!!!

I personally think its time we started looking into the championship now for players. Its the 6th highest ranked league in Europe and the number of Englishmen starting for their teams every week must far outweigh the premier league. Players like Will Hughes should be included now. The likes of Danny Ings for Burnley and Austin for QPR had excellent seasons last year and are not included, instead we have Welbeck who is utter shite and hardly plays for United and Andros Townsend who cant get a sniff for Spurs.
In the championship the players will be hungry and focused, its about time we looked there for talent.

As much as I love Tony Adams, Campbell and Ferdinand circa 2002 was a pairing I can't see us matching for a long time.

It's amazing what a bit of heart and pride can do for a team
Teams like Greece (won Euro 2004), Czech Republic (SF Euro 2004), Turkey (SF World Cup 2002, SF Euro 2008), South Korea (SF World Cup 2002), Russia (SF Euro 2008) ... all made to the Semi Finals or further in big competitions while the "Golden Generation" where in their prime.
For all the hype the Golden Generation never got past a quarter final and didn't even qualify for Euro 2008!
I agree it's not the best looking England squad but if the players have the right attitudes and get a good draw they could still do us proud

On the other hand Italia 90 (semi finalists), Euro 96 (semi finalists), France 98 (last 16 and were bloody unlucky). Out shines Sven and his golden era as the papers doubed them.

I think the 96 to 98 period was when I last truely believed we could win it. The goal by Owen in 98, cant imagine any of our lads making as big an impact

In the championship the players will be hungry and focused, its about time we looked there for talent. This old chesnut... truth is, although the squad aint great, there's still very rarely any better players playing in the championship. Welbeck is twice the player of ings or austin...might not be an out and out 'goalscorer' like them, but he's in there because he can play wing/support/advanced and do a much better job in at least 2 of those roles (though welbeck doesnt have a bad goalscoring record for england either with 8 goals in last 23 apps). And neither of them would get anywhere near our 'goalscorers' sturridge and rooney. Hughes is nowhere near any of those midfielders picked either. He's got potential and stood out for his age, but i'm not even sure id put him in the top CM bracket even in the championship. At 19 he's one for the future and will be fine continuing in the u21s - putting him through to the full squad doesnt make him develop any faster - quite the opposite as he wouldnt get as many games. The pickings arent great at the moment but id still rather go with the "top" players who are experienced in qualifying for tournaments...then hopefully come the tournament we'll have some better pickings/standouts from the u21s.
