Was talking to one of my Leeds mates about this season this morning! Looking at some of the teams in the division that season, would people say it was the hardest league one ever?
Pos Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts Qualification or relegation 1 Norwich City (C) (P) 46 29 8 9 89 47 +42 95 Promotion to 2010–11 Football League Championship 2 Leeds United (P) 46 25 11 10 77 44 +33 86 3 Millwall (P) 46 24 13 9 76 44 +32 85 Qualification to 2009–10 Football League One Playoffs 4 Charlton Athletic 46 23 15 8 71 48 +23 84 5 Swindon Town 46 22 16 8 73 57 +16 82 6 Huddersfield Town 46 23 11 12 82 56 +26 80 7 Southampton 46 23 14 9 85 47 +38 73* 8 Colchester United 46 20 12 14 64 52 +12 72 9 Brentford 46 14 20 12 55 52 +3 62 10 Walsall 46 16 14 16 60 63 ?3 62 11 Bristol Rovers 46 19 5 22 59 70 ?11 62 12 Milton Keynes Dons 46 17 9 20 60 68 ?8 60 13 Brighton & Hove Albion 46 15 14 17 56 60 ?4 59 14 Carlisle United 46 15 13 18 63 66 ?3 58 15 Yeovil Town 46 13 14 19 55 59 ?4 53 16 Oldham Athletic 46 13 13 20 39 57 ?18 52 17 Leyton Orient 46 13 12 21 53 63 ?10 51 18 Exeter City 46 11 18 17 48 60 ?12 51 19 Tranmere Rovers 46 14 9 23 45 72 ?27 51 20 Hartlepool United 46 14 11 21 59 67 ?8 50† 21 Gillingham (R) 46 12 14 20 48 64 ?16 50 Relegation to 2010–11 Football League Two 22 Wycombe Wanderers (R) 46 10 15 21 56 76 ?20 45 23 Southend United (R) 46 10 13 23 51 72 ?21 43 24 Stockport County (R) 46 5 10 31 35 95 ?60 25
Some good sides in the division at the time Norwich, Leeds, Millwall, Swindon, Charlton, Us, Southampton, Brentford, MK Dons, Brighton, Yeovil and a few others! I thought the football we played under Lee Clark was superb, especially with the likes of Pilkington and Roberts tearing up and down the wings! Still can't buve stockports plight looking at them at the bottom of the table either!
Some interesting figures too we got the biggest home wins that season beating Brighton 7-1 and Wycombe 6-0! We also had the highest scoring game along with Norwich 1 vs 7 Colchester! Was a cracking season shame we couldn't get over the line in the end! I think if we'd have got Leeds in the semis instead of millwall we'd have gone on to make the final against Swindon or Charlton!

that play off against millwall was a real downer ...pretty much like the peterbro final the year after...No wonder we have so many doom mongers

A startling league table and one that can send shudders of disgust and waves of delight for football fans in equal measure! Southampton formerly in admin now riding high in the prem and 8 of those teams now in the championship! Hartlepool, tranmere, carlisle on verge of going out of the league and poor old stockport dropped like a stone!!! I know we all aspire to get bigger and better and want it as quickly as possible, but god forbid we EVER end up in the same position as stockport through piss poor financial management and share ownership issues!!! Oh and at the risk of getting berated by slapps and many more lee clark haters, that kind of sums up how difficult it was to get out of the league under his tenure, notwithstanding the budget because the years that followed saw both sheffield clubs join the division as well as a newly rich brighton heading to a new home. Am not excusing his failure because the hard facts are that he failed, but there are mitigants!

Absolutely! and what is usually forgotten is that we went in to the final day of that season with a chance of automatic promotion albeit a small one but a chance nonetheless. The growing expectation of success within the club, coupled with the bullying defeat at Millwall is IMO what led to several bad moves by LC and the club in trying to get in too many experienced campaigners alongside the smattering of talented (yet niave) youngsters we had at the time.
