Cant win on here - folk screaming out for a striker and we're in for ALF, a player who didnt look too out of place in the Premiership. Now he's not good enough and we need a 'target' man - is a target man in todays football? We had one of those called Alan Lee and he was laughed out of the ground. If ALF comes it will be a fantastic signing for us - just like Peltier hasn't worked out here, ALF hasn't worked out at Cardiff - but ALF will be class at Town. Can't believe this post is getting so much loving. There virtually isn't a single post saying ALF isn't good enough, just ones suggesting he doesn't seem like someone that could fill a role somewhat similar to Holt and/or Vaughan and all other things being equal not be someone you could see complimenting Wells (away from FPBI's tactics that are beyond my level of understanding). This isn't some old fashioned 'big man-little man' view, rather simply that both are more towards the out and out striker mould. IF we can afford ALF and we also bring in another striker more of the ilk we anticipated, that's great. However, if it only ends up being ALF it's still good, just slightly odd when Vaughan is much more likely than Wells to be on the treatment table (tempting fate!). Is this such an outrageous view? Perhaps Wells did put in a transfer request and he's offski

From what I'm reading it's up to ALF if he wants to come here or not.

We better hurry up. Powell doesn't play Wells up front alone so we head into a huge game with Wigan playing what 4-6-0?!...

Well that's about every transfer window for the last 5 years we've been linked with Le Fondre now.. I even started getting caught up in all the type this time.. If he was going to sign I reckon it would be done by now.. It's only a loan deal!

Not sure why you'd choose Bolton over us given it's a loan deal. One way or other he is guaranteed to be paid his Cardiff wage wherever he is (Bolton could afford a higher percentage) but with Gudjonsson and Heskey and co there and only Wells at Town, he's far more likely to play football matches with us

Vaughan is the other striker... Only had Holt and Wells for a sizeable period this season. (I'm not really counting Stead/Patterson/Ward as never really played). Wells, ALF, Vaughan (in a couple of weeks), Bunn etc. Not overly concerned with that. Another would be great, but not essential. Vaughan wont play again this season. Yes he will. Couple of months tops; possibly shorter with a facemask. That's a best guess based on his Twitter report of his injury although I'd love to see the CT scan. The team shouldn't be about one player and Town should have planned (long term) for his absence. Alternatively there needs to be a contingency plan with a short term loan. Don't recall Holt being too bad initially - perhaps short term loans are the answer, especially when they have something to play for, such as a contract?

If we don't bring in someone up front we will go down. We need an extra striker but seem to try to be cheap arsed in bringing players in.
Fwiw I do think we need a big lad in for the front lines. Its a shame we don't have cover for lynch because he'd be worth a punt.

Lets just hope whoever signs doesn't read DATM. Everyone gets written off before they sign on the dotted line. Hmmm do they still have dotted lines................................. I wonder ?

We just need a decent team player who can link up play.

If this is true about Bolton I doubt we'll get him. Don't see Town begging for a guy to come here if he'd rather be at a club a few miles away just to be a bit closer to the North West - obviously doesn't want to be here out of choice, in which case, fuck him.
Is a bit of a piss take to have spent a couple days dealing with him only for him to change his mind at the last second though. Hopefully some others are lined up.

Not sure I buy he geography line. I get he's from Greater Manc, but after 4 years of living in Reading and Cardiff 30 miles surely can't make that much difference.

Exactly, we are 30 mins from Manx, If the bloke wants to go to a horrid Lancashire club over Town then we don't want or need him, he's very average anyway, good riddance

Think the simple fact is he preferred Bolton over us nothing to do with distance really. This transfer window is just one kick in the bollocks after another on and off the pitch.

Bolton are going to be completely fxcked financially under Lennon... He is another Harry Redknapp.
My squad isn't big enough, I don't have any strikers... Blah blah blah.
2 years later club goes under
