We should've signed Le Fondre years ago when we had the chance to get him for peanuts. I was praying form us to get him then while the know it alls on here said he wasn't good enough for us! Ha Yep true- one of a few players we could and should have signed for relatively small money- Greer, Bridcutt, lambert, Alf, but we went for Boom boom/trotman, Kay, Novak, & a whole host of other shitters instead. What we need to continue to do today is more careful, planned and researched acquisitions. No club ever has a 100% success rate but with our budget we need to hit as high as possible in order to keep competingu. To be fair the club has improved loads since Hoyle's early days, esp under Grayson who signed some class players and the business we have done in last 9 months has been terrific. Coady & Butterfield prime examples.

Agreed. Hoyle is getting smarter in the transfer market. Gone are the sweetshop days of Lee Clark with one can of Coca Cola and twenty Rolla Cola.

He doesn't fit our target profile. He's probably had his best days and you are going to have to pay a premium to get him even on loan. I don't think he'd come here "fizzing" with indignation, trying to prove a point like Holt. He'd be a waste of money.
Anyway get real, Powell said post-match yesterday that some of the names that we are being linked with are ludicrous (paraphrasing) and I I assume Le Fondre is one of these.

Didn't we have Rhodes then? We did but what difference would it make? People may say they are too similar but I'm telling you now, give any manager in the championship the chance to have Rhodes and Le Fondre in their starting line up and they'll snap your hand off. Funny that. You can say they would say that, but they actually probably wouldn't. Agree it would likely work on Championship Manager and FIFA.

I don't really understand this to be honest. They are massively indebebted to their owner (who does not rank too highly on rich lists, not a billionaire and probably the same as Dean Hoyle?). No chance of paying the loan back unless they get to PL again. Very unlikely to do that in the next few seasons without spending loads more. Is there revenue stream that much bigger from a decade of PL action? the town of Bolton and their crowds aren't that big and I can't see a big overseas market. With FFP on top, how can they justify spending money like this? Will end in tears surely. Bolton passed FFP, the debt is nil interest for ten years, we just made about £500k from Liverpool game , will get about same if replay is televised, the club now owns the hotel, and has a European grant to develop the area arround the ground. So the revenue is not just from the football side. CYL has a fracture in his leg which might explain why that move fell through, we are cutting our cloth, we played a36 year old alongside a 37 year old yesterday. Didn't you lose £45m last year? That's some cloth to cut!

I wasn't having a pop just genuinely don't understand a lot of football finance these days. Could you add a bit more detail for me? who do you owe over £100 million to and how rich are they? How close are Bolton to breaking ground on the Middlebrook development? Looks like over £100 mil is needed to fund this, is all this money coming from the EU and will it also be interest free? I am a bit sceptical of these plans as there has been a development talked about for our stadium for nearly a decade now (HDone) that never moves forward. And i may be way of the mark here, but can the town of Bolton really support that big of a project? Especially if the football club is outside of the premier league in the championship (or worse) and not drawing in the big crowds? The cup money is decent, but when teams in our division are paying each other £11 mil for strikers, I would think the 500k may just about cover a 37 year old Heskey's wages.

Bolton owe him into hundreds of millions Is he though? everything I can find puts his wealth at less than £200 million, (some as low as £40 million). Yes he is rich, but can he afford to be owed £130 million (without interest apparently) and then spend another £100 million on a retail project? It doesn't add up to me.

Has Le Fondre to Bolton been confirmed? Can't see it anywhere? Why would a basic loan take 4 days to complete? Maybe more to this than a simple case of Bolton beating us to his signature.

The cup money is decent, but when teams in our division are paying each other £11 mil for strikers, I would think the 500k may just about cover a 37 year old Heskey's wages. The money is owed to Davies, he pumped a lot in as business loans and charged interest on the money until recently, so he is a long off £100m down on the deal. We are 'owned' by a company called Burnden Leisure and the jiggery pokery goes on in their name, no money from the football side of the business is apparently being used for commercial build, funded by euro grants and venture capitalists. I get the cynicism about such ventures, when we moved grounds there was talk of us making 'millions' for the land Burnden was built on, surprisingly that never happened. The difference here seems to be money is coming in from outside without us needing to invest. In terms of Bolton sustaining such a venture, I personally would be surprised but there good transport links in terms of road, rail and even Manchester airport. Could it it all coming crashing down arround our ears ? Would not be the biggest surprise, but as I said on here before we have debts but have always met our financial commitments , no administration. FFP is about losses not debt so owing £100m interest free is same as debt free. Money can not be reclaimed without 10 years notice. Not many £11M deals in this division and the £1m or so we make from the cup game would be the difference between affording not affording a loan deal. Although a bit like you do not think play offs or relegation are that likely so there is an argument to save for next season.

Would have liked him here but we already have two 'off the shoulder of the last defender' type strikers in Vaughan & Wells.

The new Harry Redknapp. Yeah very similar we have a Cardiff player on loan (Mason) who goes back as LeFondre comes in. we have signed a young Irish lad, and Beckford has left. If if this carries on we will have someone under 36 playing up front for us before you know it.

I would imagine that the reason these mega rich people are mega rich is because they make other people invest their money into a scheme for a percentage, effectively passing on the risk. It it fails, the mega rich person still gets a cut and moves on to the next investors.
