Im a relatively young fan and I never really got experience the original cowshed. Just wondering if any one on here as any old pictures or video footage of the original cowshed so I can compare it to what this new cow shed might be like.

Ha, The south stand will never compare to the cowshed, Its just the way it is. My memories are been packed in like sardines, I was probably only about 10, but we used to try and get close to the loudest group of fans who would congregate near the back just left of goal. There was an overwhelming smell of Alcohol, Smoke and Piss adding to the match-day atmosphere. If you were a kid you would position yourself just in-front of the rails, so that when a goal went in you weren't crushed by the sudden of hundreds of supporters jumping and seemingly leaning/moving forward in one big surge. whilst throwing bog rolls onto the pitch, The atmosphere was feverish, you never felt comfortable as a child and expected it to kick off at a moments notice. I cant think of anything that would replicate the feeling these days.... Maybe going to watch a turkish game would get somewhere close. You never got asked to "sit down" there werent any seats, you just moved in front of the big guy blocking your view. There weren't many women (if any) in the cowshed, so it was very ladish, pissed up, swearing and extremely loud with many hitting the metal corrugated structure with their doc martins to the chorus of huuuuudddersfield, Huuuuuddersfield. Once you got bored of an extremely limited view surrounded by the big men, the kids would generally go down to the front and climb on the rails in front of the barrier to protect against pitch invasions, those tall enough would stand on the rails and grab onto the barrier for a better view. In those days i used to get town schoolboys free tickets, but they were for the grandstand, so we would get in and then you could move stands, so we would go pitchside and move into the cowshed for the second half at least. Happy days, It was cheap, basic, but great fun, as much fun been part of the crowd as it was to watch the football....

As for the highlighted bits, that's precisely what the NSL is trying to achieve now. So get into the South Stand and enjoy the crowd.

The old Leeds road ground had a far better atmosphere than the John Smiths , but it would have cost far to much money to bring it up to todays health and safety standards. The best game atmosphere I witnessed was against West Ham in that early 70s cup game ,and will never forget when the town boot girls kicked ten bells of shit out of a group of Hammers fans who tried to take the shed. This was the game when a packed shed was rocking from one end to another, and also the best game i have ever witnessed in my 54 years a fan. The one thing that's missing today is that atmospheric smell when a mass of fans are packed in together, and all the singing banter from fans who highlighted the area of Kirklees and district where they came from. I seem to remember the Mirfield crew having the biggest following in the shed in the early 70s , this was closely followed by the singing coming from those from Dewsbury , Brackenhall , Spenboro and Almondbury. Happy days

Not to mention the unnamed fan who seemed to be there only to moan at the nearest linesman - - -- -any linesman would do!

The 'who's up Mellor's wife' game was a belter. It had to be experienced from The Cowshed to understand the experience fully.
As was that Millwall game when a Town fan got on the pitch and tried to threaten their goalie, who had a worldy in the draw. IIRC he waited outside the players entrance after the game so he could apologise.

I remember the 'Who's up Mellors wife' as clear as it was yesterday, another that sticks in my mind was 'Starling, Starling show us your arse' to Alan Starling, who eventually obliged by mooning the cowshed, one in a long line of great Town 'keepers.

The surges and eruption of noise when we scored. Sometimes your feet left the ground for several seconds. Over the little moat and wall and onto the pitch for 3 seconds when we scored ...until they put that over-hanging fence up.

They obviously opened the gates at half time on this footage ... To anyone of a certain age this is tv gold .... Dave Cowlings nephew might enjoy one of his trademark crosses.. And I love Tracy Austin doing the Alan Lee at around 4 minutes

I remember the game .. motd hadn't been for years... We were at the top they were at the bottom .. and we got stage fright and blew it .. one of the results which ensured we didn't go up.. the two other standouts being the consecutive defeats at hull and burnley

Remember it like it was yesterday. Good turn out. But just like these days booed off for not winning. Pretty sure that was the start of a bad run that cost us a second promotion.

Isn't that Trevor birch the football administrator who worked at Leeds who hits the bar for Chester?

Second thing it does is show what a load of bollox modern football talks - same size field, same size ball, kick it between yourselves and score. Simple game complicated by too many.

There's some decent play in there, considering we were a 3rd team then. Some typically "Huddersfield" defending as well like.

First game I ever attended that Chester game. Had always wondered why I went back for more after a 0-0 but looks a decent game (too young at the time to actually take it in). Next game was 5-0 win vs Exeter in the next home game.

There looked to be a decent crowd that day.
I started going when Eoin Hand was in charge, think 5k or 6k was the norm. When did they stop people moving between the stands/changing ends?

The late 80's, after relegation to the 3rd division it was stopped, in fact I can't even remember it happening during the relegation season 87/88, in fact, I'm sure the Cowshed was closed due to the crash barriers not meeting safety regs at one point for a season or two. Anyone else confirm this?

Weren't we favourites to go up before those 2 & then it all went tits up? Burnley away midweek, I think we scored early doors & then lost (might have been 4-2). Then Hull away on the Saturday - think we scored first in that too, then lost 2-1, with the winner being deflected in off the ref!
