Sounds a really good idea - this way the police will know exactly which train football fans are on, which carriage & even which seat. Make it a lot easier for them to "target" the fans in their usual disproprionate way!

Why do you have to register your 'club membership number', I assume they mean season ticket number, what if you are only a casual fan?
This will enable the police to designate dry trains, stop fans mingling with other fans from other clubs and other such Draconian changes.

You need your club membership number because its *only* possible to buy away tickets for Newcastle or Sunderland if you are a season ticket holder or paid to join their membership schemes.

We can all already get the 25% discount for booking a group of 3-9 people but the free change of tickets when a game is moved for TV sounds good. At the moment you're shafted if you buy an advance ticket and the game is changed.

They'll the fee for changing your ticket but I would imagine that they will charge you the difference in the ticket price from when you originally booked. Good idea though in principle.

How many of our games have got shifted AFTER the date that youd buy tickets and sort out away travel (if youre even going on train anyway) etc I'd be surprised if its happened more than once to me ever. Sunderland and Newcastle probably more likely, but even then, Sky and BT seem to announce their fixtures WELL in advance for the Premier League...and obviously they never get games moved at late notice "on police advice". Nice positive way of capturing folk onto "dry trains" though.

So is this scheme only open Newcastle and Sunderland fans? Yes. As it says at the link provided, "This is currently a pilot scheme available only to supporters of either Sunderland or Newcastle United football clubs, and which involves travelling on Virgin Trains East Coast services"
