Poor draw but at least we are at home. Out of all the teams that were left when we got drawn out, i really thought it was going to be Man City and was on a high for a couple of seconds only to come back down to earth with a massive thud. Any of the remaining sides in the hat would have been a decent home tie, but Reading again!! anyway we owe them one from last year.

Its a dull draw but its winnable at least. Plus it simply can't be as poor a game as last seasons attempt at a football match in the cup.

Last year was simply the worst game of football I've ever seen. This summed Chris Powell football ethos up. Playing football not to lose games rather than win. Look at the glorious stats. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30608402

45 years of watching and we surely have the worst cup record and collectively the most boring ties of the 92 clubs. Probably 200 cup ties down those years and just a handful of big games. Even when we have drawn top teams they were in the doldrums making them barely glamour ties...City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. Anyway, lets bash Reading and draw Real Madrid!

The probability of drawing Reading out of the hat in the third round two years running (as an independent event) and both home ties 0.00006.

The probability of drawing Reading out of the hat in the third round two years running (as an independent event) and both home ties 0.00006. would that be the same probability as drawing manchester united two years running at home? we could get noel edmonds to do it by opening boxes and everyone pretending their is some skill involved??

Yes! There can't be any skill involved otherwise they wouldn't have had John Harrison doing it!

No seeding, but maybe use a system similar to the world cup qualifiers / tournament where coloured balls in different vessels are drawn.
Premier league sides in one / championship teams on one / the rest in another.
draw premier league side first, then draw a ball to see if they play championship or another qualifier, then draw for home or away. Same for Championship side, draw ball to see if they play a premier league side or qualifier, then draw home or away. Same for Qualifiers, draw ball to see if the =y play championship or premier league side, then draw for home or away.
ergo no sides (or not many) of the same level play each other (in theory)

£55 for Sheff United fans at Man United, hope if we ever do draw them it's not away ...

The probability of drawing Reading out of the hat in the third round two years running (as an independent event) and both home ties 0.00006. I don't think you have factored in the possibility of one of the two teams being relegated and having to play two games just to reach round three! Anyway, it happened so the probability of it happening are 1.

£55 for Sheff United fans at Man United, hope if we ever do draw them it's not away ... They seem to be charging different categories of supporters different prices. A season ticket holder pays £47 for a Category 1 ticket and the general price is £55. Crazy.

Don't know about anyone else but on the day of our playoff final I was a bit underwhelmed by OT to be honest, irrespective of the result.

I could be totally wrong but I thought Man U used to have a policy whereby their season ticket holders had a mandatory obligation to purchase tickets for all home cup ties? I read something the other day that said something to the effect of "if you don't attend Europa League home games you'll no longer be eligible to apply for domestic away games and it may affect your applications for cup finals". Either way the prices are crazy and almost makes you think whats the point in wanting a glamour away tie.

Surely they won't be able to force Sheffield into doing this sort of nonsense. Both clubs have to agree to the price on these ties. I seem to remember when we had Arsenal a few years ago it wasn't unreasonable, something like £25.

In other news, Man Utd's 3rd round game will be televised live on TV. For the 47th time in a row going back to the 90s. Guess they need the money and exposure though.
