Firstly, a nice post TP. With regards to the bit in bold. If you look at recent history I don't really see which of the players that were sold on should have been retained, Rhodes - Crazy money, replaced by Nakhi (who we have apparently turned down interest on), Clayton - Good money replaced by Butterfield, Butterfield - Good money player wanted to leave, Coady - same as Butterfield, Smithies - Good money, replaced short term by Steer. Most of these players would have been impossible to keep without massively breaking the wage structure (even that wouldn't have kept them as they saw us as a stepping stone). D.W is hopefully now trying to recruit players who buy into HTFC the vision, not just seeing us a some stepping stone club, but it's going to take time. Just give him and the board that. If we get to the end of the season and we are relegated and have egg on our faces then you will be well within your rights to say "I told you so", however at the moment DW clearly thinks that he has enough at his disposal to get us to safety (as do I) and I trust his judgement far more than anyones on here. Time will tell. So firstly thank you for not been abusive or demonstarting your ferile ubringing like so many on here. You make some good points summarised/concluding with give it time, and normally that would be fair enough but the need for a stronger defence has been with us since we wouldnt pay 1 million for sean morrison and the need for another striker competent at this level is not new we have mucked about with it for ages. I would have no qualms at all if the money raised from our player sales had in part and i stress part gone towards a ctre back and a striker . I think we could have got those in at less than half of the money raised. They haven't quite got the hang of the debating lark have they?

The OP is expressing an opinion about the club's recent transfer dealings. I don't share the opinion, or think it's a well chosen subject line, but what's all this jumping on the bandwagon of personal abuse? First few responses - fair enough; after that it's just bullying in the school playground. I think to post on DATM it helps greatly if you have the following 1) a thick skin 2) good spelling skills or 3) turn off the auto correct 4) no understanding of sarcasm 5) ability to use the log out facility Otherwise when you post something deemed to be not fitting you'll get pulled to shreds. If you do it more than once you're brave - more than that you're a WUM and excessive amounts ... Well you're just Nick. Hope that helps.

I couldn't even be arsed to read the OP. Just saw who it was by, the length of it, the title and guessed it was just packed full of the usual clueless infantile bollocks.

It's clear that we could do with signings, and that everyone is disappointed that we haven't made them in January. No one could argue that we're lacking in options up front, at left back and potentially at centre back as well. We also look like we could struggle this season should fate not smile upon us. Not sure anyone is particularly to blame for any of the above. We only have a set amount of funds and there are only a finite number of available players.
Loads of clubs' fans are bemoaning the same points following their transfer window activity - Leeds and Sheffield United to name two of our local friends.
Hopefully we can stay clear of the relegation zone, improve our fitness and understanding and crack on next season before which hopefully we'll be able to strengthen the squad significantly.[/b] Well it isnt the fans fault is it and if we are so much better run than our neighbours you would expect us to do better in the transfer market. I agree totally with your closing paragraph we will have to, its just that for me with the money we have raised should we really be relying on hope ? [/quote] No, it isn't the fans' fault. Who said we were any better than our neighbours? I wouldn't particularly expect us to be any better or worse than Leeds or Sheffield United in the transfer market. Given we have low crowds and less potential it's actually harder to put forward a business case for the Chairman investing in Town rather than those two clubs I mentioned. We may have raised money from sales, but the wage bill is such that it exceeds turnover (or it did, in any case). On that basis, you can hardly blame the Chairman for being more circumspect when it comes to making signings than when he first took over.

I wish I had the foresight and wisdom of terrierpark, I'd have lumped my life savings on Town getting relegated this season. We've ALL been deceived, apart from terrierpark, because he knows better. Ain't life a bitch?

A balanced view would point out there are other equally morose threads readily available to cock a snook at this week. Cock a snook, my phrase of the week.

Ain't life a bitch? I very rarely bet on the outcome of a season, in fact in the summer months i always look forward to the start of the next one hoping that we might give ourselves a chance and start the season the right way.. Still waiting like .....

Can only assume these targets have agreed to sign in the summer.I also assume they've agreed to not get injured, change their minds when a better offer comes in or sign a new improved contract at present club, which if we really want them will cost a lot more.

The best bit is since our targets are officially unknown, any future signings that we might make might not have been our targets and we will never know if we got them or not. I suppose however if we apply the htfc free transfer only rule and they do arrive on a free there will be a reasonable chance they could be.

What does it matter how much a player costs or if he was on a free? As long as they do their job well. There are no guarantees the two will correlate.

Whilst I can't back the tone of the OP's original post (he's just venting his spleen), I don't think there are many of us that weren't disappointed by our limited activity in the recent transfer window. We've been crying out for a new centre half since it became apparent that Hudson wasn't the player he once was and this dates back to the end of last season at least. I'm still not sure why this wasn't addressed last summer unless the Board just didn't trust CP with any real money. I'll accept Hudson has been better since DW's arrival though. The OP mentions Sean Morrison and we missed a trick by not signing him so this whole not signing a quality centre half thing goes back some time. Thank goodness for Lynch (other than when he loses it!). I thought Ward looked a decent bet but can only assume DW didn't rate him.
I wondered whether our inactivity in the transfer market both in January and last summer will affect season ticket sales? I'm guessing there'll be some folk who won't commit whilst the club appear hesitant in the transfer market. A player that once cost £100,000 nowadays cost £1M and sometimes you just have to speculate to accumulate. It will occasionally mean having to spend £1M-£2M on a player to move forward but these are the times we're in. I'm sure Dean, who has been phenomenal for us, will know that you rarely make money out of running a football club and there has to be a limit to what he pumps in but people will be looking for a good showing in the summer. It's reassuring that DW seems very relaxed about the whole thing and I have the upmost faith in him.

I remember Workington Town away early January - lost 3-2. Like you say we've never had it so good. If my memory serves me well that was the last Football League match that Workington won, they failed to get re-elected at the end of the season. I wasn't at that match, but I was at the same ground to see the Cup tie some years later when Steve Smith made his last appearance at faull back at the age of 42 (?). One of the worst grounds I ever watched Town play, others being Gresty Road, Valley Parade, the Old Showground, Springfield Park and the Shay Gay Meadow was the complete pits. it was pissing down with rain and the roof had a massive leak that poured down onto your head like Niagara Falls. There was excellent fish and chips there though

Terrierpark .. "ferile" isn't a word .. you feral old man Actually it is. It is used to describe someone or something who/that is both feral and virile. Although I agree TP has not used it in that constant and probably meant feral.

Not at all.... reg posh is a nonsense More the type of person that would buy the best model of that line of car the manufacturer makes, then modify with further improvements like custom made long life exhaust, headlight upgrade, long life plugs and performance air filter. use the best oil and service regular

Ain't life a bitch? 20:1 with SkyBet. I see that as good value after the non-event of squad strengthening for the second half of the season. £20 on will either soften the blow, or be £20 lost, but with a transfer window where there has to be some action for a Championship season.

If you read it back you will find that actually since i was referring to the family unit, fertility and breeding ,i would thefore think it reasonable to suggest that their verility can be applied in this case, therby making the grammar and context correct

Right now i am waiting for Pipes to ask me if i dont change my car every time a new reg comes out why should we buy in every window? One step ahead of you there old man... I change my car if it lets me down consistently or if the garage bill outweighs the return. Unlike Town who persist with their poorer players who let them down

And of course, will be happy to join us no matter what Division were in. I'm really struggling to believe some of the PR bullshit coming out of the club lately. Passing it via DW seems to make everyone actually believe it. If it was, as it always used to be, DH explaining why we signed sod all again, there would be public outcry. Are we really supposed to believe we have people lined up for the summer, who we're already biding our time for, but couldn't get them in this window?. I'd love to know what makes the club so sure they'll come to us in the summer, no matter what happens between now and then abd what division we are in.

Changing a player is far more complicated and difficult than changing your car.
