I had another look at that foul by Daniels(?) on Flo, it's such a nasty challenge. Left his feet with both knees wrapping around Flo'a leg. He's so lucky he didn't get a broken leg. Red card all day long. Even if he was being a soft referee, it was a yellow. What a hack!

The ref’s view was obstructed for the foul on Flo, MOTD did a good job of showing it. It was a terrible foul but you can’t give what you don’t see. As for the offside lino was probably distracted by the player in a clearly offside position and therefore missed the more borderline player being also offside. That’s more a problem with the rules as time and time again you see players purposefully standing offside but not ‘interfering’. This begs the question as to why it happens. Surely if the manager instructs players to stand in such a position they think there is an advantage to it. It certainly worked for Bournemouth yesterday. The offside rule is a joke at the moment, if you are a lino you have to watch the player kicking the ball, the offside line and then decide which of the players you are watching are interfering. Impossible task.

Can we please stop blaming referees every time we lose. I wasn't there today but by all accounts the officials made two errors - one offside missed that led to a goal, and one foul missed that led to a corner. At best it would have been 0-0 at half-time. From what I read/heard we weren't looking remotely like scoring before their first goal, and even less when they went down to 10 men.We lost 4-0 and I'd be very surprised if many supporters were surprised we lost/didn't get a draw once the first went in. Our away stats since the first match of the season are very very concerning. I've heard Wagner's post-match interview and he wouldn't discuss the second half but just blamed the ref for the scoreline. Hopefully he was just putting on a brave face for the press as he's normally excellent after matches, win or lose. Without rehearsing the old arguments many of us accept that we're poor in midfield if Mooy isn't up for it, for whatever reason, and that the likes of Kachunga and VLP produce very little end product. Add to that we are weak at full-back, by Premiership standards, and have very few natural goalscorers in the team and we can see why we may struggle, On the positive side we'll have Schindler back next week and hopefully Palmer might eventually get, and stay, fit. Equally I'm an Ince fan and hopefully once he gets one goal, more will follow. It would help if he was played in his best position, rather than moved around to accommodate our lesser attackers. Equally positively I hope Dean Hoyle was bluffing a bit when he said he couldn't see us spending in January, if we were struggling. The thought of relying on the Malones, Quaners and "players who can play as strikers if necessary" is a tad worrying. We've seen today how thin our present squad is. We were well on top, Van la parras shot saved well and Malone inches wide just 2 that come in my head. No we can't stop blaming referees when they get 2 key decisions so wrong.

Deliberate swinging arm at Mooy early in second half also From Wilson I think. Gave the free kick but no card Wasn't a swinging elbow but there was a hand in the face which is a yellow card offence.

Leicester onside goal not given Penalty against Spurs not given Fer 2nd yellow now given Red card not given at swansea for foul on Ince as last man Schindler 1st yellow a joke v WBA McLean no red Hegazi no 2nd yellow Foul not given leaving us with 10 men for a corner v Bournemouth Offside goal given for Bournemouth We're getting absolutely nothing from the officials at the moment. The only thing that has really gone our way was a possible 2nd yellow for Smith against Palace. Smith left one on Martial at home to Man Utd too. I also thought they could have had an early penalty in that game too, might have been Kachunga on Herrera. Martial kicked out at Smith, that should've been a red too

Was going to go on to say we need a real character maybe enforcer in midfield we have good footballers but maybe not a boss! This league has great quality we need to combat this with work and aggression when needed. I suspect we need a bit more strength of character in the middle. Cue dogs abuse. Agree entirely. Said the same the other week when we talking after Liverpool. A younger Barry Horne would be spot on. We said someone about 32 who has been written off and has a point to prove. For me, we are 4 players short. Another centre half. A winger. A combative midfielder and another striker. Or maybe Kachunga will revert to striker if a winger is brought in?

Kachunga just isn't good enough at this level unfortunately. Watching him yesterday, every first touch forced him 10 yards backwards and it never seems to be in his thinking that he could actually turn forward as he receives the ball. His work rate makes him an excellent player to have in your side at Championship level but you need far more up here

There was only one player in the way these are supposed to be professionals.

Missed Schindler yesterday. Zanka looked a tad suspect, I think he was covering Cranie more (or thinking he needed to be closer to him) which left Flo a little isolated. Most of their play resulted from balls down the channel inside Flo where they had space.
On top before 2 appalling decisions. Gambled at half time but it didn’t pay off.
Mounié looked fully fit. Mooy looked (understandably) knackered, as did Williams. Fans were great.
A day to forget where things just went against us. No need to panic or change what we are doing. Bring on City!

He simply never looks like beating a man or doing anything remotely threatening. Odd really. Hopefully the real Kachunga returns soon because when he does there ain't nobody like him

It’s been a quiet couple of years for the man who refereed the 2014 FA Cup final. Since that match, the pinnacle of English officiating, he has taken charge of just seven top-flight games: in 2014-15 a leg injury kept him out until December, and he returned to top-flight action only in April. He missed last season altogether, again because of injury, but though he has been blowing his whistle since August this is the first time that he has been glimpsed on a Premier League pitch since May 2015 (though he was fourth official when Chelsea beat Stoke a couple of weeks back). He has warmed up by flourishing his cards with rare abandon: his last two games, both in the Championship, featured a combined 10 yellows and two reds. He has previous with Watford, who will not readily forget the ludicrous and swiftly rescinded red card he showed to Gabriele Angella after 28 seconds of a match at Bournemouth in January 2015 that the home side went on to win 2-0 (the Cherries went on to pip the Hornets to the Championship title that season by a single point). The only Watford game he has refereed since was the final one of that same season, which they needed to win to take the title. He refused them an apparently clear penalty, and then allowed Sheffield Wednesday to score a stoppage-time equaliser despite an offside in the build-up. Sunderland have fewer bad memories of Probert’s decision-making; curiously this is the fourth time he will have officiated them since Christmas Day 2013, and the other three matches were all against Everton. As much as the ref was bad. We can’t blame him for our lack of goals or poor defending.
Schindler will help with the latter but we need to improve a lot going forwards.

We aren't getting the rub of the green regarding decisions, but we shouldn:to let that mask our deficiencies. I suppose our troubles in both boxes are highlighted even more when we don't get the decisions in our favour. Wagner doesn't strike me a manager to hide behind poor refereeing decisions - he's too smart for that.

At 2-0 we are chasing a game and making decisions that we wouldn't ordinarily make. Malone's mistake is the perfect example. At 0-0 against 12 men, we would still have 4 at the back and would just hoof it clear. We might end up 0-0 at the end but it's still a point for us.

Lack of fight in this team first goal against then what? Results don't lie. What a prat. This is a team that has massively overachieved. To say they have no fight is insulting. Christ there are some idiots on this site.

Some of the officiating last night in the Watford v West Ham game was very average. Watford denied a clear penalty. Andy Carroll lucky not to get a yellow or red with a cocked elbow to the head of a defender(didnt even get a foul let alone a card). Handball in the lead up to Watford's second. Handball by Watford defender clearing the lines. Goes to show that the standard of officiating is bad all round.

Arsenal vs Spurs was terrible too.
Very odd how a huge, multi-billion pound industry (that the PL is) is overseen by a small bunch of incompetent clowns.
Like it or not, I think technology will be introduced to ‘help’ very soon.

Like it or not, I think technology will be introduced to ‘help’ very soon. I'm not sure I can agree entirely with this. I will agree that some of the officiating at times isn't questionable. However... As you say it's a multi billion pound industry yet where's the help for referees in terms of technology? We have goal line tech which has only been in a few years. One man plus two linesman controlling 22 men throwing themselves about, rolling about on the floor etc is difficult. It's all well and good blaming officials but the way in which the game is played in front of big TV audiences, slow motion replays and social media makes the game even more scrutinised than ever. The game especially at the top level is quick, seriously quick, things happen in fractions of a second. Sports like Golf, Tennis and mainly Cricket and Rugby have had technology for years and it's been fine tuned in that time to give the officials help. Players need to take responsibility too, some of the play acting, diving and general cheating that goes on makes a difficult job even more difficult.

VAR technology (Video Assistant Referee) is being used here in Germany (and in the States, I think) and it seems to be working OK, whilst being an area still in need of improvement (some teams have been on the end of poor VAR decisions mainly stemming from the highlighted reason you gave). But by and large it seems to working (I would say 90% + of times, possibly more). Referees can consult the VAR or the VAR can intervene for 'blatantly obvious' mistakes (until now offsides, goals and penalties mainly), so the first two Bournemouth goals would no doubt have been ruled out here. The old argument that it spoils the flow has been pretty much dismissed - you don't really notice it interrupting things, bearing in mind the countless instances where players/teams get into time-wasting mode (like taking 45 seconds for a goal kick - in which time there could have been a quick referral). Would love to see it introduced in England (any FC Cologne fans on here might disagree :-))

We could be 1-5 points better off just from decisions in those two games. McClean should have walked too.

Still being fine-tuned and it did have some embarrassing teething problems - couple of system crashes leaving the ref without his VAR, and differences in opinion in the interpretation of the rules put the DFB (German FA) on the back foot for a couple of days - Cologne had 2 decisions go against them in one game against Frankfurt! Naturally causing them to furiously contest the point of having it. But I would say people generally are in favour of it now as it cuts out nearly all mistakes.
