Ian Wright says he's apprehensive about going to the World Cup in Russia this summer. Is he right to be apprehensive, are any Town fans going...do you feel the same way...is it dangerous to go while relations between the Tory Govt and Putin are at such a low ebb. ? It shouldnl;t matter which party was in power in the uk, so don;t get why you'd mention it specifically being a tory government. The government of the day ( Tory as you mention it ) acted in the manner you'd expect and want a UK government to act when a foreign country tries to assassinate people with chemical weapons in Salisbury. On the world cup i think any england fan who travels there is taking a huge risk on their safety. And thats without this current political situation! There are well drilled, organised, trained, hooligan gangs waiting to specifically target england fans. I doubt the russian authorities will offer much protection- theyre more likely to join in. The official russian line to their hooligans efforts in france ( which was brutal by the way ) was one of pride- that their lads responded to ( made up ) english provocation and gave the english a good kicking. There was little or no shame. No sign that it was even condemned. Well times their number by 100 and add in a complicit police force and the added motivation of the current fall out with their hero putin, and all i can see is carnage myself and a few body bags being flown back. I really hope Im wrong but I fear the worst for our fans over there. I struggle to think of a country less fit to host a world cup than russia currently is.

No mate we can't. My advise would be stay at home, lock the door and hide under the covers. Bet England's firm goes over. I've heard the HYC are in touch with the ICF. Throw in the EDL and Chelsea HH coupled with the NF and the UDA and we should be OK. The CL are sending some boys as are our SC mates from Leeds. Someone has asked the IRA but they told us to FO. LOL! We should hold our own if we can get the BNP back together, LMFAO.

4 of my mates went to Moscow when we played Anzhi Makala (or whatever they're called) in the Europa Cup.
They loved it and were glad they went for the experience but one of them got separated late on and got mugged and chinned.

I would say the only ones allowed to travel out of all of that lot will be the 18 year old pretenders who will run a mile without police protection. Another thing to consider is the bent officials. My mate went to watch Liverpool a few years ago and they were all at it, got bribed at customs, pay up or you aren't coming through. Abramovich only became so rich because he was at the top of the criminal tree and had friends in high places. Corrupt as hell.

There is no way i would go to the World Cup, any England fan will be a target for the local nutters and there is plenty of them.

Have you ever been to an England tournament game, Captain? The older England nutters can't help themselves, and it doesn't take much to set off the rest of the travelling support. The Russians in France were absolutely brutal, but to try and defend the English fans after all the trouble over the years is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion.

Im not trying to defend our hooligans in any way. I know we still have that element ready and willing to throw some bottles and tables about. Do think our hooligan issues have been superseded by a lot of countries now though. Whereas Russia's are on a different level altogether. Our lot always look pissed and unorganised. Just a rabble, egging each other on. The russians were nothing like that in france from what i read about it. Organised, disciplined and indiscriminately brutal. They train for it FFS! Ted's link suggests the russians have at least looked like theyre trying to do something about ( as they were obliged to to with the WC going there ) but their media's reaction to the trouble in france gave the game away , as far as how the russians view hooliganism and their part in it. Just think as far as their gangs, the local police and the russia media are concerned, england fans will be fair game this summer.

But let's not play the collective victim card after years of English fans terrorising innocents all over Europe. They've now met more than their match, and anyone who goes to the World Cup should be aware that they will be targeted.

I finally gave up and lost all interest in the national team in the run up to the last Euros, I might give the Denmark games a watch in case either of our lads gets a game and Belgium to see if they finally live up to the hype but that's about it.

Brilliant chips England have been so easy to cash in on for a long time. Unfortunately the odds are becoming very lengthy now, people have stopped wasting there money backing them. Didn't get chance to join the Cheltenham banter this year , missed datm for that . I must admit watching international for me is becoming less and less interesting every year. The only way I get interested is by betting.

Never in a million years.
The general Russian attitude towards other nationalities is generally poor any way. They hold themselves in very high regard whilst looking down everyone else.
Their fans are trained thugs who seemed to want to overshadow the English legacy. This coupled with the recent tit for tat politic spat with them, I would be willing to bet that trouble will come looking for you and I wouldn't hold out for the authorities stepping in to help you.
Fair play to a anyone who goes, you're braver than me. As mentioned by others, people of BME or LGBT identity would be straight up crazy to go.
