After Boris Johnson"s comments today, the writing is on the wall. We know the narrative by now. The story will build and swell and every twat with an opinion will give their two penneth. Then, it will be deemed unsafe to travel.

I’d go to Russia........but not to watch England! To be honest I have absolutely zero interest in the World Cup...............summer is for cricket for me. A football fan but `no interest` in the world cup, a competition where England are competing (for a time),im sorry and i know there might be others like you, but i find it very very strange and odd indeed! After England's shambolic efforts in recent tournaments I am surprised anyone actually still gets excited before the inevitable letdown Get down your local cricket club instead They need your support more

Is there not a possibility that official Government advice will be for England fans not to travel? If that does occur what is the situation regarding travel insurance?

Just be aware that visitor travel visas for Russia tend to be up to 30 days...so if you arrive on or before day 1 and end up for some freakish reason deciding to extend your stay until the final, then you WILL likely be arrested/fined or held for a court hearing when you try and exit.
(You can extend your visa, but only whilst it's still valid).

You may find it strange chief.....but its true. I find international football incredibly dull - so much so that i genuinely dont know which teams are in the england group in russia except for belgium. Likewise, i know they have 2 friendlies in the next few days, but havent a clue who they are against. I could find out easily but just dont have the interest. I wish england all the very best in russia and hope they do well......i may watch the odd game, but the interest i had has now massively waned.

England playing international football is probably the most boring soulless sport on TV .

If you can't leave by your due date, you'll never leave - it'll be the Salt mines for you, deep in the frozen wastes of Kamchatka or Irkutsk ..Take a pullover just in case

I’m not being funny but why would they do that ? Because fans might get chinned by football hooligans ? The Government has a duty to advise its citizens of dangers facing them in certain countries. Regarding Russia, the dangers could possibly extend beyond the general jovial 'chinning' by those playful Ruski fans. Current official guidance here www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/russia

As well as the violent risks facing fans it could also be quite possible that English fans get arrested and have trumped up charges applied. They then become, pardon the pun 'political footballs' as the UK try to get them released.

Violence aside id rather save my money than see us scrape through in second after just beating Panama, drawing with Tunisia and losing to Belgium then for us to lose in the round of 16 to Germany.

Similarly the travel advice seems to indicate no increased risk . People from all over the world visited Russia during “the Cold War” . I don’t think the evidence and your worry are in sync. I wouldn’t want to go . But that’s more to do with the hooligan thing . But the reason why Brits seem to get targeted for this stuff appears to have something to do with our own reputation for it .

If England by some miracle progress deep into the knock-out stages....thousands will spill into Russia.

They’d assume guilt regardless of charges and leave them in jail.
