I wouldn't blame anyone wanting him to leave after today's performance. That's 5 consecutive defeats, that in itself is too damaging and the quality of the squad or lack of it as he has, as we have been told, the final say over transfers is his responsibility. The tactics are baffling, the formation baffling and playing 5 defenders in a game against a relegation rival is baffling. He would have been sacked anywhere else by now.

And what would a new manager hope to achieve Wagner is getting the most out of the resources he as available yes we have not spent well in the summer, but we have such a low wage structure compared to the rest we are not in a prime position to cherry pick. Lets all just calm down and hope we can find some quality in January.

The bottom line is that the squad is quite simply not good enough and the summer signings have not contributed anything. I don't include kongolo in that as he was with us last season. Overall I agree, but Kongola took a big chunk of the transfer kitty, so there was still a decision to make.

Wagner needs to leave, the sooner the better for me. A new manager along the same lines as Wagner but with fresh ideas and motivation. He kept the wolf from the door throughout November but it just delayed what I hope will be inevitable, Wagner out...

I would most certainly want David Wagner to stay, but my reservations about that are growing by the week unfortunately. The statistics under his management in the last year and a half are very very grim - results, clean sheets, appaling goals for column etc - and I don't think it's rocket science to argue that his team(S) are either unwilling or unable to attack - we all probably accept that once we concede, we lose. Statistically Wagner's teams have NEVER scored many goals.
What worries me are two things - from his interviews midweek and after the match today he is basically saying that he's happy with the way the team set up, with its approach to matches and that it's just fine margins that are producing the weekly losses and blank scoresheets. As he keeps saying "it makes no sense to change the approach". For me the way he sets the team up - defensive, keep possession, recycle ad nauseam etc etc - is very much the cause for our results.
Secondly I just cannot see how you can say he's getting the best from what he's got - forget the safety-first bore-fest - can you honestly say that DePoitre, Mounie, VLP, Pritchard etc etc are anywhere near as good/average as they were last season and, sacrilege though it is, even Schindler recently is looking half the player he was. That's without wondering what the hell's happening with Sobhi, Mbenza, Diakhaby, Bacuna et al - they are all looking like horrendously expensive mistakes. For me, having to bring Quaner on today speaks absolute volumes. To be fair Billing has come on but so many, in my opinion, have gone backwards or are going that way.
I will still support David Wagner and I don't expect him to come out publicly and say how poor we are, but the way he sets us up and gets us playing every week does suggest he either doesn't want to change our approach or doesn't know how to. I'm as fickle as the next man so that support will become increasingly impatient if he doesn't at least try and change something. Our problems are too deep and persistent to be solved by simply bringing in a decent striker next month, even if that was possible.

There's a useful nippy wide player from Wolfsburg reserves on the radar, another one at Monaco catching pigeons and a midfielder from NEC Nijmegen on his way.. exciting times ahead. Who to be a.

Allardyce. Why not change it. Wagner doesn't change anything. Enough is enough. We've now lost to palace, Brighton, Newcastle and Southampton at home. Who the fuck are we supposed to beat? The top 6? We are fucking done. Lost our last 5 games, it's over. The happy clappers can clap their clappers and bury their heads in the sand.

As much as I think he is too defensive at times, he wasn't the one passing the buck and going back to the keeper all the time.......some of those players today were way off what's required. Wagner carries the can - all managers do, but he is right to be disappointed in a good few today who let him down. Sadly when you take mooy and Hogg out we have little or no drive centrally at all and out wide we are far and away the worst in the league. You can't make one good prem wide man from sobhi mbenza vlp diakhaby quaner and kachunga put together.

Wagner tells them to play like that. He came across as a man massively under pressure. He has to go now. Forget past glories. He's taking us down.

as always nowadays I've left it a while to gather my thoughts on today's game.
There comes a time when no matter how worrying the performances (or lack of them) are, you have to stop blaming the players and look at the touchline. Today is just that time. Tactically we were completely inept apart from 10 minutes second half. The players look shit scared of doing anything or using any individuality out on the pitch. We use the same tactic over and over again. it's so easy to play against for any premier league side. forward to the half way line, sideways, sideways, a little forward, back to the goalkeeper, pass, sideways, forwards, sideways, back to the goalkeeper.
We are supposedly playing 5 in the middle, yet when southampton break on us they run straight through the middle almost unchallenged. Why? because we are sticking to this wide game, and players are out of position. I wouldn't mind but we can't cross balls and we very rarely get anywhere anyway. Like a knife through butter, our midfield about as effective as a porcupines condom. Yes individual players make mistakes but the system we play is just not working and no matter how many times we lose (it's 5 on the bounce now isn't it) we just seem to do the same again and again and again.
since this thread is about the Manager, I'll only say that if he were a manager anywhere else, he would have been sacked by now. Should we remain loyal to someone who will walk at the end of the season when we go down?

You're right Shawsie - Wagner wasn't the one actually passing back to the keeper every time, BUT they do that week in week out - it's the default position of nearly all our players - and seems to me to be coached into them relentlessly. It's a team that lacks any type of flair and seems to play to this sterile pattern week in week out, regardless of whether our opponents have taken the lead yet. If it was one or two players then I would blame them, but it's not - from Flo to Schindler, Mooy to Bacuna. Newcastle took the lead and after that I don't think their goalie had a save to make. Southampton the same - another dozen(?) games the same that's not the players, that the coaching and set up.

Everyone calling for Wagners head is an utter moron and hasn’t the slightest clue about what it means to coach football. Fuck off Exactly, how is Schindler's mistake, Zanka penalty and Mounie twatting it over the bar Wagners fault? I suppose it's his fault Mooy and Hogg are injured as well?
