Roberts? PMSL You really should watch his game. 3 or 4 times each game he gets the ball and sets off running. Like many a town winger down the years, the only thing that stops him ending up on Leeds Road is cos the gates are closed. As for been a winger. Danny offered more damned width I have watched him very closely. Has pace, can take on opponents and control a ball and is the first Town winger for years who can actually cross a ball. Produces balls into the box with pace and accuracy. If you really think Schofield was a better player, then I rest my case!

Danny Schoffer was NOT consistent. He'd have an amazing game one week and go missing the next couple. An example of this would be the Brum FA Cup game at home last season. One of the best games i've seen Danny play in..then back to average dross. Sometimes I had to check our Players to see if he'd been subbed! Talented yes. Consistantly INCONSISTENT!

if our academy under murphy is that good how come only 1 player has come through it to play in the premiership????and he didn't do too well apart from that half season!!!! the young ones coming through arn't all they are cracked up to be and don't look like pulling any trees up in their pro career. how has town and murphy let huddersfield talent slip through the net and these players going on to play in the premiership??
on boothy, yes he is a legend but i can't see him getting another contract. we've got to bring in someone else younger with more appetite and build a team around from the front if we want to progress!!!

I had a soft spot for Danny, but totally agree with you... he WAS inconsistent. I sometimes think that the only consistency with wingers, more than any other type of player... IS their inconsistency. Strange that!

Well said deo - the academy for what it costs simply isn t working!! It has to either produce players to sell for big fees or provide better quality than currently in the first team so we can progress up the leagues - at present it aint doing either!!! Am not having a dig per se at murphy but there have been rumoured fall outs with a number of promising kids over the years (jerome, campbell) with the consensus being that he runs the youth side of the club in a very dictatorial manner - that would probably account for a fall out with ternent as they are both very similar in wanting their own way!!

Perhaps you ought to be watching Manure. Unfortunately you would still be complaining. Rooney had a torrid run when he couldn't hit the back of the net and was playing poorly. Clearly he can't be a top player according to your definition. We are playing in the Third Division, whatever the big wigs call it. The top players don't play in the third division. At this level, I think we have got a very good player in Gary Roberts.

Roberts looked a class above early in the season ( first few games) bit since then has looked distinctly average to me in the games Ive seen. Which interestingly is exactly what the Ipswich fans said he'd be like when we signed him! One of the better of Ternents signings though, which he should be as he cost the most.

The whole team is struggling, Captain. It's a lack of confidence because things haven't gone as well as they'd hoped, and idiots booing the players when they walk onto the pitch don't help.

The year of broadbent, smithies is the first 'full' academy year. I don't see how the academy can be judged until a few years time.
The likes of worthy, holdsworth etc were only in the 'academy' as we know it for 2/3 years as it was only set up in 2000 - prior to that they were in the youth set up.
The benefit of the academy system is working with these players when they are young and developing them.
Judge in a few years when the current academy side are 19/20 etc.

When Worthy wasn't playing, people were saying that stan was wrong and that he should.
Now Worthy is playing, there are posters on here, and certainly fans around me who wish for Worthington to not even grace the bench.
My point is, there's no point in arguing about this stuff, everyone has an opinion.
I don't think it's as much the club being torn apart on the inside with all these 'fights', it's mainly posters on here spreading rumours that probably have no more substance than a Junior Mendes shot on goal.
People read these rumours and lap it all up, making sweeping judgements on anyone; from fellow posters right up to management. It's not a case of the club falling apart on the inside, its the supporters on the outside clawing away with their 'sources' and allegations.
Get behind the team, all this crap doesn't help.

Give it the time needed to be judged properly then.... When haven't I given the academy system time to be judged properly? My apologies specialun you clearly have not but that is not what I was getting at. I was hinting that you (amongst others) should also afford Stan the "time" that you are willing to give the academy. I concede that a "few years" would be very generous though.

defo after that disgrace at peterboro when we were lucky to get nil and uncle turnip hadnt a clue how to stop them tearing us to bits, yesterday they only beat a poor hereford 2-0 and one was a penalty. I want the club to improve and move forward, it wont do with stan in charge.

Sorry Greavie. I wanst suggesting Danny was a better player. Only that Roberts drifts more than any other winger we've had in years, but gets very little stick compared with others. For me his drifting is another reason why we have no shape or pattern of play. Watch him next time and tell me he holds a wide berth. He's all over the place,,which is not something you need of a winger. Play him in the hole, then fair enough. Play him as a winger, then stay wide and make yourself availbale for the out ball.

i was talkin to a friend of murphy's on saturday who said that ternant has to be careful in the way he is with murphy as gerry has basically 'sacked' the last 3 managers, so it just goes to show that he is regarded within the club and his opinion is vital!

Its also a basic lack of quality , lack of morale, lack of 'gel' and a lack of a meaningfull gameplan. Basically, first and foremost, its a lack of a decent manager. Fully agree with you about the booing of a Town player coming onto the pitch, or booing when their names read out at the start. It actually makes me cringe when it happens.

There was also a time when 2 players got permission off Ritchie to go too Cheltenham races and booked an hotel and 2 days off. Gerry found out and Ritchie called both players back. I heard about that - damn right IMO the trip to Cheltenham was canceled after a wet performance against Gillingham (lost one nil at home to side on something like a 15 game winless streak) This at a time when AR was two weeks from the sack Maybe it wasn't the right time for some of the lads to have a jolly down to the Cotswolds and instead knuckle down to some extra training in the hope of saving the gaffers job! There's other inaccuracies and spins from the versions you've posted to what I've heard but I don't have the time to get into it this morning

IF GERRY AND BOOTHY ARE SO HIGHLY REGARDED WITHIN THE CLUB, THEN SURELY IT'S BOOTHY FOR MANAGER WITH GERRY TO ASSIST FOR THE INTERIM PERIOD. IS THIS A DREAM TICKET??

murphy should keep his gob shut.ST is quite capable of digging his own grave without gerrys help. But if GM is offered the job again and he refuses again he should be told by the board that its time to put up or shut up.

Why do people keep bringing up Campbell and Jerome to beat Murphy around the head with? campbell chose MANCHESTER UNITED over Town when he was a little kid. How is that a fault of Murphy? And Jerome sounds like he was a real arrogant, chip on shoulder, pain in the backside who at a young age had a poor attitude and wasn't very good. Wasn't he rejected by Town, rejected by his next club, rejected by the one after that aswell, before finally ending up at cardiff where he made the grade, presumably with a much improved attitude hed gained along the way.
In some ways the academy has been a tremendous success- its provided THIS CLUB with loads of players over the last few years thats filled well over half the playing squad at times, at times when the backing was so minimal we wouldn't have been able to bring in anything like the same quality from outside.
But its also failed to bring through those real 'star' players that earn the club huge amounts when they move to the big time, Stead appart.
its hard to judge its performance until you know what sort of state the scouting network is in. If that isn't finding the talent in the first place, then there's only so much the coaches can do. Ive heard it isn't great compared to the other local clubs its competing with. We should bare in mind though that the current crop of kids are ,by all accounts, a very good group indeed, and in there might be one or two real gems.
