I'm not sure this approach will work. Given the friction there has been during the terms of the last three managers, we should either get someone with the experience and presence to impose himself on the club or just give it to Mitchell, who will do as he's told.

i'd take that, i just hope that there isnt too much expectation put on the new manager and we're not calling for his head after a few games.
big sam would have been good though!

Good post - there has been far too much wild speculation and this latest rumour seems to make sense and fits the criteria set out by DH. Of course that doesn't mean it will happen.... I await the next rumour linking Mourinho to Town by some clown who has 2p at 50-1!! ;D

I don't think that would be a problem. If the chairman said to him, "We want you to be manager and Gerry will show you what to do" I think he would snatch his hand off. Personally I would prefer an experienced manager who would shake the club up. Much as I would like it to be true, I find it hard to believe the Allardyce link. However, those currently at the club would find him just as stubborn and single-minded as Ternent - and he's too big to argue with.

Im surprised hes got such a positive response. Clarks had a years experience as a number 2 at a very underperforming championship club and a bit of academy work at Newcastle. Hardly a CV to to get excited about. Id have thought if we were looking to appoint a complete managerial novice, we'd prefer someone with a lot more coaching experience at least , like the Appleton fella at WBA.

Bit odd that they have just randomly found his name then...

Even a simple name like his, gets spelled wrong on here

Two ways of looking at this
1) It is a random name like appleton - suggests probably something in it ...i.e. adkins, boothroyds are the more obvious rumours.
2) Hoyle has suggested a young, enthusiastic manager ...add that to working with academy and clark seems to fit the bill....easy pickings for the papers to fill their rumour pages and perhaps nothing in it at all.

Went to Tooting and Mitcham -v- Harlow yesterday, and I said to my Town-supporting mate that I wouldn't be surprised if Town's new manager would be someone who'se name has never been mentioned before on DATM. Lee Clark fits that bill! Lee Clark has apparently long been considered to be a manager of the future. One of these guys that got involved in coaching early when injuries started to affect his own very promising playing career. Everyone has to start somewhere, and he'd get my backing if he was given the job.
FWIW, based upon what was said last week at the HTSA meeting before the Brighton game, that Hoyle has sought out the advise of Craig Brown, I reckon Mixu Paatelainen at Hibs could just be a possibility. No evidence for this, just my hunch, based upon my own decent knowledge of Scottish football.

I wouldn't want anybody who has had anything to do with Newcastle's academy. I have been told on many occasions its a joke! I also would not want anyone who has learnt their trade under Roeder, hasn't got a clue from what I've been told.
Remember the last person we got from Newcastle! I was warned as soon as we appointed him how shit he was.

I know someone that's on Newcastle's books and apparantly he's got a decent enough chance of making it. They've made a couple of decent players; Taylor, Kazenga LuaLua, Andy Carroll; but for such a big catchment area that's not really much.

On a surface basis only, think you are right about Appleton, looks to have a bit more of the experience to offer, especially after having all these quality names being dangled in our faces. However, it should be noted, both Clark and Appleton are midfielders ---- thought we were past signing more midfielders

He used to keep being laid off and then reappointed every time they changed managers. Got fed up with it and went somewhere else. Its mainly from him that I hear things, but its common knowledge in Newcastle that the academy isn't very good.

It was in the Mail on Sunday as well.
Norwich fans seem to like him generally. A lot more than they do Roeder anyway!!

I would be very disappointed if we went with someone like lee clarke if it is someone without pedigree and experience then go for mitchell seems ridiculos to go for an unproven external appointment

Ternent had 100% control. Nobody interfered with the signings he made, the teams he picked, the tactics he used, the motivational 'skills' he employed.
