Was told yesterday that Glennon was disciplined for his part in the punch up with Unsworth, that's why he's on the bench and Unsworth will not play for us again. This was from somebody who knows Glennon from his time up Carlisle. She was also telling me that when he picked up the player of the season award Glennon dropped the trophy! Could not be as easy as dropping one to bring the other in?

if we had have had smithies in goal all season i think we would have had a few more points on the board i think we could make a dvd of glennons mistakes this season, superglue feet

Physically laughing out loud reading this thread, great work lads/lasses ;D ;D
I'd leave Smithies in TBH, cant see what Glennon brings to the table that Smithies doesn't.

Some of you were suggesting we should get rid of 'Glenda' last week.

Did very well today. A couple of smart saves and he took every cross he came for. Let's hope for more of the same!

Had a very good game - nice to see him joining in with the goal celebrations at the end.

alex was very solid, change this thread to " time to forget about glenda... " we have a new first choice keeper imo.

I rate Smithies, I'm sure he'll go on to be an excellent young 'keeper - but we've got to think about results now! Yesterday, I think we'd have done better, in terms of end result, with Matt Glennon in net - that's the most important thing. I'm not just suggesting this on one performance, I think he looked pretty shaky at times against Hereford, uncertain of when to come out, and he got caught out once or twice. Why on earth does the topic need removing? It's not a character assassination! It's a discussion about our two 'keepers, both of which I rate. Competition for the shirt can only be good, but we've got to think about results now, Smithies will continue to progress as a player, and this run has done him nothing but good, I'm sure. So he has one bad game and you drop him? Unless you are totally clueless you should know that a young keeper is bound to make mistakes just like any young player does. He'll learn from any mistakes he makes and then become a better keeper. Theres no point dropping him after a few games. Leave him in and let him develop. He made a mistake today, which would of cost us a goal if their player hadnt been offside, but then for the rest of the game he commanded his box and claimed crosses like he had been playing the game for 10 years. He showed great character after a mistake that could of totally shot his confidence. Alex Smithies will go on to be a great goalkeeper and if we dont give him a long run in the team now then when will we? There will never be a 'good' time to throw in a young keeper, you just have to ride with it and take the risks.

I just generally feel more confident with Glennon in goal, I wasn't merely suggesting this from one bad performance, in the Hereford game the week before, he'd just looked shaky at times, not quite as decisive as Glennon.
Fair play to Smithies today, he's had a good game. I'm glad that we have two very able goalkeepers at the club, but if it gets to a stage where Huddersfield Town would concede less goals with Glennon between the sticks - then we should play him, it's got to be about the success of the club NOW. I think that was the case against Carlisle, and I was worried that we might see the same again today, fortunately, the team as a whole have played well, Smithies included.
True, there's never a good time to stick an inexperienced goalkeeper in, and we do need to help him develop as a player, while bearing in mind that we have a good and experienced goalkeeper here aswell, in Matt Glennon.

I feel the opposite to you and am much more confident with Smithies in goal.
Whoever plays we have a good backup keeper.

Alex is the future and the present, he also makes me feel confident, up at brunton he was at fault for first but it was one of them days and they had some luck. Good to have such a backup keeper such as glenda... if he goes elsewhere its not a massive loss !!

Agree with Tom here and others. Way more confident with Smithies in net. 3 clean sheets in 4 as well - not a bad little start for him. His positioning is far superior to Glennons and he is far far more agile and athletic and is better equipped for low shots which is a real achillies heel for Glennon.

Rabs is a much better keeper than MG. We made a big mistake getting rid of Rabs, not one of Jackos better moves!

I also rated Rabs and was amazed when he went, as for Alex I thought he again was excellent on sunday in a big match when the pressure was on. He is very confident, his handling is excellent even though he did drop one cross, his distribution and shot stopping is excellent. Very nice to have such a young classy talented keeper in our team.
