The Carlisle fan comment suggests he could be a bit of an Andy Payton. I would imagine that our current management team are confident they can get that out of his system. What the ability to score goals?

What i dont get is Carlisle will probably lose him for nowt as i don;t imagine he will signa new deal especially with the way Carlisle have played this season. If anything i think 250k is a bit too much for a player who is going to be out fo contract!

Won't they get compensation with him being under 24? Perhaps the board are banking on £50k from that and League One survival?

I just texted the news to my Carlisle mate.
He politely suggested we could keep our money ;D

no compensation if a SPL team comes in for him though! Plus if he doesn't sign a contract he will be released so no comp at all....
Graham is a striker we need with a denect goal scoring record. Last time we were in for a striker like him it was Hayter and he would have come if we had the backing we have now! I wouldn't pay a penny over 275-300k though just not worth it.

I was quite impressed with him in the boxing day game. He seemed to hold the ball up and bring others into play which is something we are missing at the moment. Used his strength well and got in the box whenever possible. With the chances we are creating and the style of football we are playing he looks ideal, hope we can get him.

I see the Super Reds are linked to him in the article. Even though we today got rid of Miguel Mostto and have apparently had a bid accepted for Jamie Ward. It's not out of the question that we will get in another striker.

Won't they get compensation with him being under 24? Perhaps the board are banking on £50k from that and League One survival? I was under the impression that compensation is only payable if the player has come through a clubs youth system? Graham came through the Middlesbrough academy system and only signed for Carlisle in 2007. I could be wrong, but I don't think under those circumstances that any compensation would be payable. It would be like compensating Carlisle for the development work carried out by Middlesbrough. If I am wrong, then I would be grateful if someone could point me in the direction of the rules about compensation for players under the age of 24, as I am interested in reading them. Actually, I just found the regulations, at least I think I have and very complicated they are too. "They state that a players training and education takes place between the ages of 12 and 23." (So presumably, once a player reaches the grand old age of 24, he will not learn anything else. ) The compensation is by way of training compensation payable to any clubs that the player has been trained by up until he reaches the age of 24. It seems to imply that Middlesbrough would be entitled to some of the compensation and that Carlisle would only be entitled to two years training compensation. Can anyone else make head nor tail of it? www.thefa.com/NR/rdonlyres/FDA331B2-3FA6-4335-8ECB-E394DDA479E2/131371/StatusandTransferofPlayers2008.pdf

Boro however may have a sell on clause similar to Stead. Using Stead as an example, it would be like Blackburn claiming compensation if he had been out of contract wouldn't it? Not exactly fair as they haven't been all that involved in his formative years. I could be barking up the wrong tree here! ;D

Let's hope Clark can pull something out the bag here.

Carlisle wouldn't be due any compensation if they leave it until hes out of contract and he leaves. 250k seems like a decent offer to me. Other clubs are interested so CUFC must be expecting a bit of a bidding war. Cat and mouse this month, as if they don't accept an offer this month, chances are they'll get nowt, if he chooses to leave in the summer

Lee Clark seems a very persuasive bloke, we shouldnt offer silly money as im sure we have a few other targets... all good stuff for the next 3 weeks imo.

That'll be why the bid has been made public. Lets others know of his availability and indeed could start a bidding war, enabling carlisle to get the best price for him. Can't complain really.

I don't think he'll come, but he is just what we need. Let's hope Clark can pull something out the bag here. The attraction of our management team could pull this move out of the bag. As LC said last night "once we pull off one quality signing, the domino effect will happen" and I think he is so right. I was very pleased with our new management team when it all came together, but after last night's meeting I left the meeting buzzing. LC and his team are going places and its more a case of when rather than if. If Graham goes elsewhere or stays at Carlisle it's his loss. Town are on the up!

He obviously enjoyed celebrating in front of Town fans, so maybe wants to do it more often.
This is where the lure of our new management team and chairman might work to our advantage. Someone else, say Swansea, might come in with a 300k bid, which CUFC would obviously prefer to our 250k bid, but the player himself might look at it - the clubs, the coaches hell be working with, the area of the country etc, and think ,no, I'd prefer to join Huddersfield. CUFC can't force him to sign for someone he doesn't want to, and they know he can see out the rest of his 6 months and leave for nothing.

LC and his team are going places and its more a case of when rather than if. If Graham goes elsewhere or stays at Carlisle it's his loss. Town are on the up! Like, as has been already mentioned, it's been mentioned clearly to start a bidding war. Nothing has leaked from our end, the Carlisle chairman did an interview with the local paper and discussed it. If Championship teams come in, we're screwed. Yes, we have a great backroom staff that is clear to everyone, but our manager is unproven. We all know that he's quality, others more than likely won't. I don't think the management team is THAT big a pulling power, more than likely money and status if modern times are to go by. Also, the chairman said the bid was WAY below what was expected. So I'd expect them to be aiming for around 500k, given that Garner went for 1.1million in the summer. I doubt we'd pay that, and quite rightly so. I'm not trying to moan or anything, I'd like to see Graham at the club, I'm just pessimistic as to whether it will happen or not because I'm so used to having has-beens and dead-wood rather than a clubs top performer..
