I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it seems like Michael Collins may be on his way to Wolves.
I know that most posts on here are complete and utter garbage and to be fair I've written some to get a bit of banter going but in terms of transfer speculation this is my first.
The deputy editor at my work (I work for a golf magazine so the reporters are well in with the media), goes out with Rachel Phillips from Calendar and who's brother is Jonny Phillips from SkySports News and Jonny has told him that Collins WILL be joining Wolves. Apparently there has been several conversations between both clubs and we are wanting more than they've offered (I have no idea what this is), but with him out of contract soon we are in an awkward situation.
I'm hoping nothing comes of this as he's a quality player and a driving force in our team but what Mark, the lad at work, usually says is often true.
Sorry guys i know ive been quiet since last week i didnt want to post until i'd asked my source, it appears that the info passed on wasnt very clear. We have an agreement for 2 strikers who will actually sign this thursday maybe its availiabilty of the several parties coming together at the same time.
also have it on good authority that sheff utd are in for collins as well as wolves
JW and CL are leaving the club (both on free's) bradford and scunthorpe
Dom W will after the next reserve game get an 18 month contract, slight trouble with knee after last week so just making sure he doesnt break down.
Looking for a young centre back to partner butler, jack hobbs is in the frame ( i expect he will turn us down)
Jevons will go out on loan and we will keep parker for the bench initially. Also looking at sending skarz as well.
Thats all i know, again you will be disappointed with one of the strikers. (probably)
i have copied and pasted from bbc 606
what do you all make out of these comments

If it is true about Michael Collins then i guess Jonny Phillips will get a roasting from his bosses telling him to keep his trap shut, and ur deputy editor will be pissed off with you for blurting this information out on public forum when he probably told you in confidence. But heyhoo, it's probs all bullshit anyway so who cares right

Why would Wolves want Collins .. he is no way good enough for the Premiership should they get promotion!?

Sorry but think this is true, i was working down in the midlands last week. I was talking to somebody (didn't catch his connection with Wolves) that said Collins was going to sign for Wolves by the end of the transfer window. I was told Town was waiting for to sign players before releasing him. We will see by the 2nd Feb

I have heard that Collins is on his way as well to be fair.
And the rest of it seems plausible as well.
Whether it is true or not, who knows? Only time will tell i guess.
Hope the bit re two strikers on Thursday is though! ;D

If Collins is going I'm not too sure I'd be overly upset. Of course his goals recently have been an asset, however he's done very little else in games.

Surely saying Collins does nothing but score and therefore you wouldn't be upset if he left is equivalent to saying you think Parker is invaluable becuase he is involved a lot but does nothing with the ball!?
FACT: If it wasn't for Collins we'd probably be 7 or 8 points worse off and our season would be going nowhere.

prior to Ternent leaving i would have been looking to get rid of him personally - although the midfield now looks good and settled. dont really rate Craney or Flynn, worthy offers zero goal threat and Berrett the same.
so selling him would weaken the team - and we do not need the cash - i would probably look to hold onto him until the end of the season and risk losing him on a free (if his contract is up?)

I believe we've got sufficient cover in Craney and Flynn should he leave.

The only reason we're noticing Micky is because we have two shit strikers and he and Roberts are the only goal threat right now.
He doesn't really do much other than pop up and score, which is nice, but once we have better options up front bacging them in I doubt we'd notice him missing. Flynn/Craney can both slot into an attacking central midfield position and, as they proved earlier in the season, they can both score goals too.
Get what we can for him I say.

If Michael wasnt playing it is entirely within the realm of possiblity that another player could have scored goals and we would have achieved the same points. It is your opinion, which you are entitled to, but it is not a FACT.

I thought Collins' contract was up at the end of next season? Can anybody clarify this?

His contract expires summer 2010. Edit - 99% sure. Just to cover myself.

Hes become a vital part of the team over these last couple of months. All this 'he does nothing appart from score' stuff is utter bumpkum. Seems people won't notice what a player does unless hes going on mazy runs or flying into thumping challenges, neither of which is Collins's game. he can seem quiet because hes doing the simple things well, moving the ball around quickly and making runs to create space for other players. Unlike Craney he can keep going for more than 60 minutes of a game and its no surprise its him that gets on the end of so many late chances. I don't mind Craney but Craney coming in for Collins would be weakening our team. Not something we should be doing. If he must go, let it be in the summer when we have time to replace him properly. The days of letting our better players go in the middle of a promotion hunt are supposed to be over.

Collins is not going to Wolves, what a load of tosh.
Can't even find a single mention of him on any of the Wolves forums either.

Apparently used to get barracked a lot by home fans for being soft because he wasn't visibly running through brick walls yet when you look back on the highlights he always had a hand in our 80's success under Buxton with important goals and assists.

The only info I could squeeze out of the old source bottles yesterday was that Worthy has had an offer and Clark is looking at strikers (plural).... but this is all stuff we already know.... I guess we will all know before weekend how it all pans out

Collins is a big game player- and we have lots of big games coming up. I suppose in the scheme of things ,if its the case that we are selling Collins to fund a top goalscorer, then there is some logic in that.
We need the goalscorer more than we need anything else including Collins. We're SCREAMING out for one!
but it won't half put the new striker under pressure to get the goals won't it, if the club have not only paid a fortune for him, but also sold one of their best ,home grown, goal sources to fund it!
Maybe Im being greedy, but I want both- Collins AND the goalscorer.

Wolves have definitely made an offer. The source was impeccable. I hope he doesn't go, personally. i would want dean hoyle to try fight off bids for our players who are good enough to play at a higher level. I would expect same from lee clarke to.

But what a left foot
