He sounds like a right greedy knobber. I bet you a cream bun over chaffing my arse with a breeze block that Alex wants to stay and that his 'Agent' is miliking us.

it is up to Alex if he wants to sign a new deal or not. It will be his own fault if he is playing reserve football next season!
Michael Collins shares the same agent as Febian Delph, a bit off topic I know lol.

Very simple. Smithies can do one. Ten games and he thinks he is the bees knees. If he wants to move that is fine but he should sign for us and then at least we would get a fee due to his contract. If Glennon had been in these last ten games I don't believe it would have made any difference. One name for Smithies - Simon Ireland

if he leaves in the summer and joins another club it'll go to tribunal to determine what sort of fee we get for him as hes under 24 and has been here since he was 8

smithies is crapping on the people who have progressed him from an 8 year old schoolboy to where he is now.the least he could do is sign a contract for a year so we can get a sizeable fee for him. we will only get a derisory sum from a tribunal.i would replace him with glennon on tuesday at yeovil and let him see the season out on the bench.he's taking the pi$$. simple as that.

over reaction this,
all hoyle and smithies agent have done is be very cleaver,
we make offer its rejected
we ask agent what will it take, hees says x y and z
we give it them,
agent thinks that was too easy i want more now,
hoyle says cheeky f**ker and puts pressure on them via media
end of day its just business, we'd all of done the same.
they'll be more to this story yet lets not turn on the lad too quick.
same happened with glennon last year.

That's exactly how I see it too! Think Hoyle made a smart move going public as, like you say, this has shifted the pressure onto the other party.

Dead right preston - although if he doesnt sign this week, then it tells you something doesnt it!! This is not a bargaining debate - he (through his agent) has got the deal he wanted - any delay tells you he is milking it too far, and as Hoyle has said if he doesnt want to play for us we will go to tribunal. Dont want to knee jerk on this, but if he hasnt signed in 7 days he wouldnt play again for us - simple as that. I appreciate agent is only doing his job, but ultimately the deal on offer is the deal requested and there is no need for further comment other than to sign the bloody deal!

Tony Coton is a first rate p**** if this guy is Smithies agent we are screwed in terms of the players loyalty.
anyways if he goes he goes, HUDDERSFIELD TOWN IS CERTAINLY BIGGER THAN AN AVERAGE YOUNG GOALKEEPER!!! and we SHOULD NOT be held to ransom by these jokers. UTT

Only problem is if he goes we need to be looking for another keeper quick ,even if its back up for glennon, theres no use Smithies leaving near the deadline and us scratching our arse with one first team keeper left!

I hear Glennon had the same agent, in which case this agent guy has been a big nuisance to us on several occasions. I can't stand agents of any description , but particularly the parasitic ones. Perhaps we should just let Smithies go to a tribunal unless he wants to change his agent. We could also write into all future players' contracts that they can never use this particular parasite. If all clubs do the same these agents would soon start to let reason and loyalty influence (and hopefully overcome) pure greed

To call football agents the dogshit of society would probably be too complimentary for them - why I don't think I'd piss on one to save him/her from burning to death. Along with bankers, possibly the worst kind of parasitical swine ever to have attempted to walk this earth.

People probably hate me for this but i would drop him and scare his agent even more, Matt Glen is a defo championship keeper so i think we will be ok,
if he cant sign a new deal after he owes Huddersfield everything then the club cant be in his heart

I agree with Justlooking, drop him into the reserves and see how many of the big boys are still looking at the end of the season. He obviously isn't bothered who he plays for as long as the money comes along, not the type of player we want on our journey with Mr Clark.

Just to move the debate on ...... if Smithies doesn't sign and, as most people seem to think, we get very little for him through a tribunal, does it bring into question why a club like us should invest in an academy? Should we just do like other clubs who have enjoyed more success than Town and let other clubs develop players for us?

If Alex leaves for big money I wouldn't begrudge him personally, nor can I knock the lad for trying to get the best deal possibe (because I'd do the same). That's not money grabbing and to call the kid mercenary is an absolute joke IMO, from what I understand his (and the other first years) contract(s) are a pittance! That said if he is going we should get a dutch auction going now rather than have faith in the tribuneral system, I mean we only got £50k for Facey despite him playing about 50 games in the Championship, scoring a few goals and generally showing sufficient potential at the time for a Premiership side to want him, honestly £50k I would be suprised if the tribuneral valued Smithies as highly as £200k (which to put in comparison is what we paid for Craney!) whereas we "could" get a seven figures selling him Also don't write Eastwood off. Long term Smithies has Premiership potential so is ahead of Eastie who "only" has Championship potential! If Smithies goes I'd have no quarms about having Eastwood as back up to Glennon and I wouldn't be suprised if in 12 months Eastwood has taken Glennons place!

Drop Smithies into the reserves & let the scouts from Premiership clubs turn up at Emley on a freezing cold night to watch him!
I loathe agents.

We won't sell him, because no club coming in for him will need him to save their season or anything.
Everyone interested will simply wait until the summer and go to a tribunal, unless he signs a new contract with us.
Personally, I think he owes us after the amount of time that has been invested in him, but at the end of the day, it's his talent.

Agents are Scum. Simple as. He wont give a sh*t about Smithies, he'll just want him where the money is so he gets a bigger cut for himself.
W*nker!!

He's mad if he'd rather go to a Prem/Championship club to warm the bench instead of stiking with his home town club at a very exciting time. He'll only be interesting prem clubs because an english reserve keeper is the best way to play the limited foreigner rules (you always need a reserve keeper on the bench but they rarely ever play).

Think there's a bit of over reacting going on here; who in their right minds wouldn't do exactly the same as him. One move these days like the ones being talked about would set him up financially for life. He could stay here out of this so called loyalty and pick up a career ending injury in his next game. He'd be mad not to try and get the best possible deal for himself and good luck to him.

You've got to agree though if he gets a move to the premiership its highly unlikely he'd be playing very often. Look at the likes of Steve Harper.
