To be played at the games from now on! Just had a message from pozza on facebook via the cowshed loyal page and this is what it says...
"I've been in contact with a local Huddersfield Band who have done a cover version of Smile Awhile. Its the version we normally sing just with an added verse about the new dawn at Hudders (Dean Hoyle taking over etc)
It's going to be played before games, and hopefully it will be played just as the teams run out (Might not be this way on Saturday but thats what the plan is) Basically this message is for everyone to join in with the song when it is played over the tannoy, all of us holding up scarfs like Liverpool/Celtic do to YNWA. If we could get the whole Galpharm doing this it would be class.
Obviously I cant contact everyone in't stadium, so spread the word, and if us lot start it off, folk will see it and hopefully join in. End aim is to get the music playing, then have it turn off halfway through & have the crowd sing that last verse or so. Wont happen straight away, but if we stick at it you never know what we can acheive."
I cant wait for this ;D
Edit - Not sure if its been mentioned on here yet but thougt i'd post it just incase it hasnt.

Hate to be a ciserable munt, but, I like the traditionnof smile awhile, knowing town fans for generations have sung the same song and that we are singing the same song our fathers, grandfathers etc sang on the terraces to show their love for the club. The extra verse is a bit of a spoiler for me, not traditional, it might as well be a new song. Sorry I'm just being honest, I don't mind it being played by a band or reworking it, but to leave the lyrics as they are, I don't see the need to add an extra verse it just seems it's being added for someones personal glory that they've written their own verse that'll now be played/sung by others, for their own egos. No offence intended I just don't agree with it, just my opinion.
Is it on YouTube yet? Any chance of posting lyrics?

t too bothered about the extra verse i just hope they play it as the team comes out and mute the last verse (al la west ham) so the fans can really be heard singing the rest of it.

No the clubs wont release copies of the new verse or version until Saturday. I dont mind a new verse, in fact i like the idea (aslong as its decent), another way to get this glorious song going on longer.. more people catching on... actually realising its being sung...and then.. ALLLLLLL THHHEEE WHILLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........ You know the rest

I always thought it was a pretty naff song until Elland Road earlier in the season when it was really belted out in fine voice. I have been a convert since but have yet to hear it sung to those same high standards. Lets hear it properly again on Sat.

I'd be happier if they'd just done the original song, I WAS excited about this new version, not anymore, sorry propane.
I just think also by making a verse about the current regieme/board is very narrow sighted, because it gives the song a date or era. If it had been kept original, then it would have remained timeless, and not linked to the current period, after all, as soon as anything changes the song is old.

How can people criticise the new verse without hearing it I've not heard it yet, but i'm sure it will be great. IIRC only The Club have heard & if they are happy with it then it cant be that bad. Good see to people are liking the idea of it being played. I really hope we can get to the point where we cut the music out & we, the fans, continue the song on ala West Ham/Liverpool/Celtic. For that to happen though EVERYONE needs to be belting it out full voice. Even if nobody else around you is singing just get on with it yourself, they'll soon join in with you Oh, I dont know where the new verse fits into the song. I'm hoping it's going to be the new second verse, as I think the "ALL THE WHILE, UPON THE FIELD OF PLAY" starting bit is the perfect part for the sound to be turned off.

I'm all for new song, new music, new sound, I LOVE SMILE AWHILE! I just don't like the idea of a new verse because of the reasons in my two posts above. Sorry but just think it will ruin it, it's a song about the club am it's traditional, just adding to the hype I've The new management, and breaking a traditional song. Your right I won't sing the new verse, I'll sing the one that town fans have sung for years, down the generations, the one grandparents sung as kids on the terraces. Like I said it's purely for egos of the band. And it'll be out of date as soon as anything changes with it having references to the new regieme. Then what?
I sincerly hope it's anew verse stuck on end then it will fade out and even if it doesn't I can sing the classic and stop at the new bit. If it's in the middle, well it'll be murdering the classic?
I do have one question for those who know what lyrics are, if management changes or the board, can it be easily adapted for the new board?

Those Were The Days is Huddersfield number One song !!
Smile A While is sung too fast these days I agree, it is a song full of meaning and passion and the words should be sang proudly and not just blurted out!

This is a very nice comment mate, thanks for that!
we havnt done a thing to boost our "egos", all we have done is spent a fair amount of our time recording a great song for the club i love! As it happens it has taken us till our 4th demo to be happy with the song, this is something we havnt taken lightly and have made every effort to make sure its perfect. we knew we wouldnt please everyone since there are thousands of different tastes to cater for but weve tried!
As it happens everyone who has heard the song, sean jarvis, mids, jimmymac and a few other town fans i have been able to play it for have loved it and no comment has been made about the addition of a verse so you never know, you just might change your mind.
And also, we didnt write it with the intention of it being sung at games it was purely because as a song it does have good melody and was great to work on so why not put in another verse? It reflects the bright outlook we have at the club ATM and we saw this as important to the time we were recording it, if its forgotten straight away so be it, it is really only intended as part of our version because its not that often we sing the first verse anyway, we seem to start at "all the while..." more often than not.
Anyways, it should be played at least once on Satrurday fingers crossed but i will be able to confirm this for you all after our meeting with SJ on Friday.

I do have one question for those who know what lyrics are, if management changes or the board, can it be easily adapted for the new board? The problem with Smile A While as a song though is that it only really has the one verse ("There's a team who are dear to it's followers...") before going into what I'd interpret as the two-part chorus. If you were to record the song with just the traditional verses and choruses without repeating anything, the song would only last around 1 minute 20s! Not exactly worth going into the studio to do you might argue (unless you were already there, or being paid . Also, the end of the chorus which kind of crescendos at the "So Town play up and bring the cup back to Huuuuuuuuuuuuuudersfield!" makes it sound a bit wrong bringing any other verses in after! Umm... so I can see the point about the new verses but let's wait to hear them first, eh? Personally, I'm looking forward to hearing it, but more importantly belting it out on Saturday ;D ;D Who'll join with me in the library (aka Fantastic Media Upper)? ;D

Any town fan is a mate of mine! As far as the instrumental goes i dont think we will even get that far if we get it top become the entrance music, depending on timing it may need to be cut off after the first verse for people to join in but we will have to see!
"Does the instrumental feature jazz flute? "
lol unfortunately not, we're and indie/punk band so jazz flute is a bit beyond us!
