.............turn it into an over priced corporate event which sidelines the vast majority of the ordinary fans. www.htafc.com/page/CommercialDetail/0,,10312~1563024,00.html On top of that they try and take the Hargreaves Memorial Trophy for the player of the season away from what was the Supporters Club now HTSA and ask for corporate sponsorship for it. The trophy was named after a life long dedicated Town supporter and the club have no right not only to "steal" this award and trophy away from HTSA but also to tarnish and cheapen the award by touting it for corporate sponsorship which in my view takes away the whole reason why it is named a Memorial Trophy. Bang out of order on this one Sean!!

I'll sponsor the 'Golden Boot Award' but on the condition that it will only be awarded to a player scoring a minimum of 25 goals!!!!
I agree with you Stan - it all feels a bit tainted

Got to look at it from the clubs point of view. Due to our income streams being severley reduced due to the stadium issue, they have to look at other ways of bringing in valuable revenue

Not usually my thing to moan about price - my attitude is normally "if you can't afford don't go"
BUT: This is a completely wrong - headed approach by our new management team. Come on fellas, the folk who'll be there that night won't in the main be the guys "on the terrace" at Crewe on Satdy - or Stockport the following week...The real downer is that the trophy is in the name of one of the real long-term supporters of the team from the days long before "Corporate hospitality" and it's bedfellows, agents & greed, stole our game. Are we trying to turn into Manure???

Due to our income streams being severley reduced due to the stadium issue, they have to look at other ways of bringing in valuable revenue Well they've immediately priced most people out of going already so where does that leave their revenue streams? "The Annual Award Ceremony is the most prestigious event in the Club's corporate calendar " - it has never been part of the club's "corporate calendar". It has always been an event organised by the Supporter's Club. "The black tie event will be held in the main banqueting suite at the stadium " - A black tie event?? The Player of the Year do has never been a black tie event as long as I remember!!! They can take their revenue streams and stick em where the sun don't shine!!!!

Maybe we should organise a DATM player of the season do for the non- corporate fanbase. Hold it in the Turnbridge or somewhere. Player of the season, young player, honorary award, goal of the season etc. Get the players concerned down there. Think they'd be honoured to do it anyway but Hoyle has mentioned how he expects the players to do more community appearences anyway. Open voting threads on here and publicise it in the HTSA column in the Examiner. Make it a good night with as many DATMers there as possible and an annual award of note and meaning as its from the 'normal' fans not corporate prawn sandwich brigade who, going by their MOTM awards usually haven't got a clue anyway.

Can anyone clarify the rumour that it's being held up at Cedar Court instead of The Galpharm?

The pricing is a bit out of kilter with previous seasons and also the economic climate, but to be fair, we have substantially reduced season ticket prices which if you went to the "do" as well would still leave a big saving on previous year's ticket pricing alone. I admire your sentiment stan but this is a commercial world and we have to compete! That said, £50 is a bit steep and maybe the turn out (or lack of!) may confirm this.

Can anyone clarify the rumour that it's being held up at Cedar Court instead of The Galpharm? Definitely a phony rumour. The Club website states that the venue is the stadium banqueting suite. I have already made my views known to other members of the HTSA committee and will re-state them on here. This is totally out of order and quite shameful and shameless. What would poor Edith make of it? Has the family been consulted? I very mych doubt it. And that's not the only one either. Another Memorial Trophy is up for grabs. Has there been any consultation on that one either? Come on, Sean, the sooner this is reconsidered the better.

Didn't Town try this kind of corporate end of season do last season before it got dropped?
Hopefully it'll go the same way again. Either that or Slapps idea gets taken up, which sounds like a cracking idea BTW.

I don't disagree that there is room for a fund-raising commercial event but when this was discussed some time ago with SJ, it seemed to me that there was broad agreement on the need for TWO events and all we had to decide was the best timing. Now that plan seems to have gone out of the window.

Or at least, continue Geoff's idea of a DATM trophy, for player of the year.

It is an absolute disgrace, although the club could argue that we've saved £200ish on the season ticket, but I agree it doesn't make it right. My opinion of Sean has been very high up to now, coming on here is excellent but really this is just plain wrong!

Yes, I understand the revenue stream argument, but this really sticks in the craw. I'd ask the club to do a cost / benefit analysis; short term negligible income versus long-term suspicion generated within the heart of the club: us - the fans.... Let's not end the centennial season on a bad note guys...

Have the supporters club officials agreed to hand the awards over? If so, why have the officials done so without asking the membership?
