thought the tune was good but the music was too loud, needed whoever mixed it to tone the music down and increase the vocal sound - also needs to be belting it out at times to get the crowd behind it if it's going to work.

I think a lot of the comments on this thread are a touch harsh.
It isn't shit, and it wasn't supposed to be a song for everyone to sing along to...it's a different version of what's considered a Town song.
Perhaps the vocals do need increasing, and the guitars toned down in order to hear it better in a football stadium.....it definitely sounds better on my own speakers. I like it.
It's not perfect, and it's not to everyone's tastes....but FFS give the lads a chance....the band (and the club) were prepared to try something different....and I for one applaud them for that.

I think playing the old guy singing smile a while nice and slowly and more importantly loud on the big screen whilst the captains are shaking hands etc would get everyone singing along. Then cut him out as you get to the "All the while...." and kick off to everyone singing the rest at the tops of their voices. Would work perfectly and no need for any new fangled fireman sam remixes.... Town already have the footage.
That "hey jude" almost worked yesterday so just goes to show it can happen.

no need for any new fangled fireman sam remixes. What is that supposed to mean? Are you seriously suggesting that version of Smile Awhile sounds like Fireman Sam?

Yes, the solos in the middle sound like the solos in the extended version of fireman sam. No offense to the lads because I'm sure theyv'e tried their hardest and put a lot of effort into it but its awful. I appreciate you sticking up for em mids but are we not allowed to express our opinion on the new version? Can anyone name a reworked version of a classic football song thats ever been popular and taken off? I can't!

I'm sure the lads' hearts are in the right place, and fair play to them giving it a crack. However, people can - and do - have a different opinion to you. Crucially, when it comes to music, opinions matter more there than any other industry - the charts are simply a popularity competition. I'm sorry, but all the opinions I heard after the game - myself included - was the new version wasn't much kop...

Theres a lot of proper gutting posts on here boys, sorry to of upset so many of you!
The speed of the song is faster than the original but atthe same time its slower than the speed we seem to fire it out at these days so we tried to hit a middle ground with that 1.
i agree the vocals werent that audible and i dont want to start picking fault and blaming things but it i dont think the system in the stadium helps, everything is clear and audible when i play it elsewhere!
i think the busted and american accent comments are a bit un called for, for a start we actually play our instruments unliek busted and as for singing in an american accent lol, he couldnt be further from it!
anyway, cheers for your feedback it is appreciated even though its all negative but if your views are the same as the majority of fans then at least we tried!

Of course people can have an opinion.....I've got enough of my own It's just some of the comments that's attached to them that's (perhaps) a bit uncalled for IMHO. They're a set of Town fans who tried to do something different.....feed back is good, but it's better if it's constructive

I've asked about listening to it on my PC as well to get a better idea. If it was on MySpace it'll give people a decent chance for a listen through a decent set of speakers - also.. Who ever likes a song at the first play?? I didn't like most of my fave songs first time i'd heard them

Cheers spike, what made it hard to sing along to? feedback more than welcome!!! Anytime! Reckon the prob was, nobody realised it was on, when they realised they started to sing but at normal speed , then yours was in front on main bit ,crowd was way behind = mish mosh!! Would defo benefit from been downloaded, to enable all doubters to get used to it!! Don't reckon stadiums mickey mouse system helped though!!

cheers for that spike, our version does fall between the traditional slow way of singing it and the pacey way we seem to do it now so i suppose there was bound to be confusion!
i found the vocals pretty hard to hear at the top of the kilner bank so i assume it was similar elsewhere, our production admittedly isnt the best but that should have caused that, i do really want to get it online ASAP so everyone can hear it properly!

memusic.metro.co.uk/users/propanepenny/tunesthere you go guys, its the only place i can get it up at the mo as im at work, should be no problems with it but as i dont have a sound card in my PC i cant check. I can guarantee it will be much better heard over decent speakers because i could barely hear the vocals on saturday and i assume it was the same for every1! Feedback appreciated! JP

Is it the result talking? Probably not... Absolute shite. Impossible to sing along to, and cod-American accents. We'd be better off wi the old boy from the Final Whistle video put on the big screen... In retrospect, I do think it was the result that was talking, along with many other posted at around half-5. Also, I can only applaud you for getting off your arses and trying something positive. I know you weren't happy with the American accents comment - but that's how they sounded from the top of the Antich - due to the sound-system....? I will say though, I don't believe Smile Awhile needs a "makeover".

i wouldnt say its inteded as a make over, its certainly not been created as a replacement of the original if that was the case i wouldnt of had anything to do with it.
in our eyes its a modern twist to suit the time period in which it was recorded.
out of interest, what do you think of the accents now yopu can hear a proper version?

unfortunately it wont do, our singer doesnt have much of an accent due to moving around a lot, the other 3 of us would sound very much like compo clegg and foggy but we cant sing for shit!

I'd like to think my initial criticisms were some of the more constructive, and having heard it again, I stick by them to a certain extent, I don't think its necessarily a version that is going to really work pre match, or a version that fans will sing along to.
But you certainly shouldn't take my criticisms to heart. Everyone has different music taste. While I'm a rock/indie fan, I'm not a big fan of this type of cover version i.e take a piece of music, speed it up, driving distorted rhythm guitar through out, throw in a guitar solo, job done. But just because I'm not a fan of it, it doesn't mean nobody else will be. I used to be in a band through my high school and uni days, and we did covers like this so perhaps I'm just sick of them because of that.
Personally if I was to attempt a modernisation of smile a while (which I'd never find the time or energy for, so again credit to you for that). I'd try to capture more of the essence of the original song. Rage of Ed's acoustic version is a good example. I'd slow it down, use an acoustic for rhythm guitar, add some strings, maybe a bit of piano. Maybe still use a distorted lead guitar to make it heavier and more modern. Again thats just the route I'd go down, and I'm sure that wouldn't be to everyone's taste.
As I mentioned in my first post, I think this version would be OK to use while gigging, certainly in Huddersfield. But not sure it will really catch on on a match day. You've obviously put a lot of time in though, so I hope that my views represent the minority, and people like it.

had rage of ed not done that version we may have gone that way, we do use strings and piano in other songs so i wouldnt of ruled it out but out of respect to him we werent going to basically lift the work he did and add to it, it had to be clearly different.

It was awful, how can a crowd at a football stadium sing along to that.....please stick to the original,or at the most change it a little.Like the idea of trying to get everybody singing before & think we should keep trying....2 good strikers up front would get everyone singing what are the words to smileawhile please. Im a new fan of the club.
