Id just like to say the entire scouting network at Huddersfield needs changing, from bottom up. They are rubbish.
My lil bro at 13 has just signed a contract with Blackburn rovers after being scouted playing for Brittania sports. Brittania sit at the top of the 1st division. They have won the 1st division title as a team for 5 years in a row now.
Huddersfield have been to scout the team on literally hundreds of occasions and never picked up one of our players, the reason they give (on my life this is true), is that they dont like such a good team, they prefer good players in poor teams, and about my bro... they say he is too small. HE IS 13 and not too small for Blackburn!!
My bro follows another player who has just signed for Man Utd
How the hell can the town have any hope for the future when these idiots are scouting.

Don't doubt your brother is a good player, but 2 points
1) (average) players in good or excellent teams can look better than they may actually be, and good players who stand out in pool team do stand out, abd i doubt that this is a reason used by a professional club
2) Blackburn, prmeier leave, HTFC, Div 3 = No brainer
PS Good luck to him and hope he makes it - it's a fantastic life

We cant be having skillfull or fast players coming through the academy now can we...
Its worked extremely well having these 6 ft (give or take a couple of inches) average lads who aren't quick, skillfull, strong or very good...

Didn't Clark mention at one of the supporters meetings that one of the scouts hadn't turned in a report in 7 months?
It's been mentioned by the management team numerous times that our scouting network is an absolute disgrace, that's why Clark was attending so many other games in January, doing it himself.

My Bro is called Tom Starkey and he is very good, not massive but then neither was Michael Owen.
They are so funny when you see them at games in their big town coat holding a cup of coffee, they spend more time stirring it than watching our players!

in fairness to the club it must be difficult to scout in the right areas,
do we aim for junior leagues? district leagues? non league (i.e Semi Pro)? Irish leagues? foreign leagues?
Scouts wont do the job for free so there will be some wages/ report fee's involved, Lee Clark & team wont have an endless supply of money to pay for someone scouting every week.
Whilst i expect the scouting to improve i would hope we concentate less on the 9-12 year old players and more on players who can make an impact now - we may not even have an academy by the time these lads reach 16 years old. I'd rather see us sign an 18 year old lad from far afield than sign young players in the gelpack league (is it still called that???).
P.s Good luck to your brother, maybe he'll be that 18year old lad we sign in 5 years when our scouting improves

Dean Hoyle stated at some point that there has not been a report in 2 years from some of the scouts so I think it will vastly improve next year.

to be fair even just going to leagues games around the country to look at potential signings can't be that hard for the scouts to do, most managers do it

We have supporters across the country who see a lot of football at many levels and would do it for free. Maybe an application could be added to the ofs where people can recommend players/fill out player reports etc if there isn't one already. Although 99% of them would probably be shit

Why didn't northernspirit, being a town fan and all, tip someone off at town that Blackburn were in for this kid and they might want a look before it's too late?

As a Town fan if my brother was being asked to sign for another team I'd want to make sure Town had the option.

My apologies, thought I'd made it clear. Town had been to scout many times and even told me my bro isn't big enough and is playing in too good a team.

Would probably be worth paying a scout or someone to chase up suggestions from fans full time

Some Town supporters sometimes go to see games not involving Town, and every so often some player may catch the eye............................. Town are informed, but is there any follow up?

Is he slow and weak but a jolly good fellow? If not that's probably why he won't make it at town.

To all those knocking Town’s scouts other than Fraser Campbell, who went to Manchester United (how can we compete on that one!) can anyone please tell me a decent Huddersfield born lad currently playing professionally in the football league that we’ve missed?
To my mind the only one is Anthony Griffin at Port Vale!
On the other side of the coin we pinched a player we sold for £200k from under the noses of Sheffield United and Wednesday and have a 17 year old on the books from Leeds who we’ve already turned down a 5 (or was it 6) figure offer for!
The best Huddersfield lads in the past decade to my mind have all ended up in our academy, Stead, Smithies, Berrett, Skarz, Senior (who went to Lilleshall), Facey, McAliskey, Mattis etc even Jerome was spotted and recruited before falling out for whatever reason.
I bet Bradford would love to have our youth team as they’re about to spend a third season in the basement, not even a play off tilt again. Meanwhile our youth side ensured we bounced back straight away in 2003/04 and even allowed PJ to make mistakes in the transfer market (e.g. Newby, Thompson) without major detriment
Personally I think the scouts do a good job, but there’s always room for improvement. Hopefully with additional resources we’ll spread the scouting net further (Ireland etc) and raise the benchmark higher still

To be honest though if he is playing for port vale i doubt we really missed out on much
