Speaking to a friend who works with Eastwood's dad, apparently he's been told he's playing tomorrow.

Perhaps Smithies is injured or LC just fancies giving Eastwood a run out. Personally I'd have saved it for the last game of the season.
But I'm wouldn't be entirely surprised if this were the case, as Smithies has been pretty unspectacular recently. But then again the lad is only 19 and players do struggle with form from time to time.

I'd rather he gave him 10 minutes as a sub, than the whole game, if he wants to give him first team experience.
How would Brighton's relegation rivals feel if we lose 1-0 from an Eastwood mistake. Remember how nervous Smithies looked on his debut.

it wouldnt make sense cos clark has said he wants to finish as high in the table as possible. Playing eastwood would jepordise this. It also sends out the message to other teams that our season is over and they WILL gain confidence over this. Every win we have plays a part in signings in the summer. If you were a hooper/cox/striker we are interested in doesnt 7 wins (possibly) in the last 8 games sound good. Clark will do anything to get 3 points tomoz and again at orient.

Makes sense to me, lets get him blooded in a game with nothing riding on it for us.
Glennon will probably leave this summer (making SE our back up) so I'd rather SE made his debut in this game than coming after 30 mins in a game next season after Smithies has been sent off. Also it's a nice reward for the kid after all his hard work this and previous seasons, he deserves a first team bow IMO

Don't be daft, do you really think that Hooper/Cox or anyone would turn down a move to Town simply because we lost a couple of meaningless games at the end of the season?
I say give him a shot, Smithies not been at his best recently and LC needs to have a look at him.
As much as we would all like to get 6 points last couple of games, it doesn't really matter. It is a perfect time to have a look at our fringe players.

Remember how nervous Smithies looked on his debut. I would feel much more comfortable with giving Eastwood a run out down at Leyton Orient. As well as that, I never like bringing a goalkeeper on for the last 10 minutes. If it is anything like that Centenary game against Arsenal (remember both Smithies and Eastwood making simple mistakes when they just came on as subs), we wouldn't be doing ourselves any favours.

How is playing Eastwood going to jeopardize this? How you actually even seen him play? Just, because he hasn't yet played a game for Town, it doesn't mean he's rubbish or a liability. My only concern is that with Eastwood possibly playing, does that mean that a few other fringe players will be given a chance or is Eastwood's inclusion in the starting 11 an exception? I would want our strongest possible side to face Brighton for 3 reasons: 1. Best possibility at gaining 3 points. 2. Boothy's last game - send him off with a win. 3. Not to do a 'Man Utd' and give Brighton an advantage over other relegation haunted teams.

The fact that it would give him experience and he could be back-up or even first choice keeper next season if Smithies goes to Everton.

given we're playing a team that can still be relegated, to play anything other than our strongest team (including keeper) would be wrong and certainly wouldn't go down at all well with those teams fighting to stay up along with brighton, especially if they were to beat us-we all remember barnsley playing a below strength team against pompey on the last day back in 00/01 when pompey won and that helped send us down, and we werent best pleased with what barnsley did, so to do the same tomorrow really isn't advisable in my opinion

If a team wants to stay in this division then its up to them to win more games during the season. Its totally up to us if we want to blood some new players ahead of next season. I personally couldn't give a crap if some other club wants to complain about it. Give eastwood a shot i say. Certainly didn't do smithies any harm.

Only reason I would be against it is that its unfair for us to put out a weaker team against a team who has everything to play for.
If we were in Crewes situation would you think it was fair? I even think the FL may have something to say about it if we just give anyone who hasnt had a chance a game as its unfair on those in the relegation battle.

"Only reason I would be against it is that its unfair for us to put out a weaker team against a team who has everything to play for." Weaker team? ? Eastwood is an England under 19 international. But hey nothing like shooting a guy down before he steps on the field. Some of the stuff people write on here beggars belief sometimes.

Are you telling me he is as good as Smithies?
I am not suggesting he is not good enough to play just that it is not fair on Crewe/Carlisle and the others for us to play people not considered good enough to be in our starting 11 (and even match day squads that travel) all year - such as Worthy was offered. Eastwood couldnt even get in our reserves when Glennon was fit! These not match fit players are sure to be weaker from not having played too many league one games recently. Its just common sense!

So Murphy should not have given a look in to Alex then when he brought him in as he wasn't "match fit" as he hadn't played any league one games?
Come on Eastwood has been out on loan, maybe not league one but I am sure he is match fit.
Whether it be against Brighton or Leyton Orient it doesn't matter. Clark has the chance to check him out at a professional level. None of this weakened side crap. The boy is good enough. He has to be to make England under 19 level.

theres a difference between giving a keeper a chance in the middle of the season, when everyone still has something to play for so its neither here nor there, and when you're playing a team who with 2 games to go can get relegated-it becomes totally unfair on the teams around them if we dont play our first choice team (including keeper)-against brighton, no chance, against orient, perhaps (as they wont have anything to play for, its away from home so less pressure)

So nobody thinks Eastwood will want to prove himself?
The boy is a footballer. He wants to play. Who says he wont play out of his skin. He said when he came back from loan he wants to challenge for the jersey.
For some reason everyone seems to think he will f**k up.
Alex may well do another run out to get a drink at the touchline when the opposition is running toward the goal. Thus a striker with a little more prowess may score unlike the last effort we saw.
I really dont get this. Its not a case of putting a dubious keeper out there. The guy obviously can play.

not the point, in this situation you play your strongest team-against orient, less of a big deal as they have nothing to play for, fair enough, but against brighton, stick with smithies-international call ups don't always mean much
