I'm told that Butterfield is already at Town and we have unintentionally shafted Boro well and truly

What has happened according to this Alan Nixon: @reluctantnicko · 10m Clayton drama ... did not turn up at Middlesbrough to join ... wants to go to Brighton ... Huddersfield unhappy at messing about. #chaos @reluctantnicko · 3m @olifisher Butterfield deal eventually agreed with big effort by both sides ... but Boro unlikely to let it go through now ... not his fault 2m adam_Gearing Boro needed a player in to let one out ... understandable ... there's a lot of peeved people right now ... 1m @olifisher Clayton entitled to choose ... but leaving it late when so much set up is like walking out on day of a wedding. 60s @notxavidoherty Huddersfield are going demented ...

Can't help but feel, it's us as fans and the clubs that have dragged this on for longer than it should, not the lad himself. A win win situation for me (imho) is that we get Butterfield and Clayton also stays, signing a new contract.Loan out: Sinnott, Billing and Holmes (Champ) for experience. Leaving us a midfield of: Hogg/Norwood/Coady/Clayton/Butterfield and Majewski to pick from. All depending on formation, if were playing 3 in the middle with a 4-3-3 formation we can have Coady/Hogg holding with Butterfield/Clayton/Norwood as 2 to choose from with Majewski as part of a front 3 (take yer pick): Lolley/Ward/Wells/Vaughan/Majewski as an interchangeable 3. Applies tin hat, for thinking outside the box. I suspect we can't afford that, nor can Butterfield leave without Boro signing a different CM. Exactly. No way can we afford to pay the wages of Hogg, Norwood, Coady, Clayton, Majewski and Butterfield. We'd definitely fail FFP

Someone send a 'Business for Dummies' textbook down to the stadium. This is embarrassing. Should have been sorted out weeks ago.

Are we covering all of Majewski wage? Butterfield will be on nowhere near whats been quoted 20k or whatever i've seen. You are probably right though bud, I'd be excited at the prospect of that being our midfield. I think we've been completely fear of lossed by our midfield in last 2 seasons, an injury to Clayton/Hogg/Norwood we've panicked almost completely depending on them, remove that out of our side and were a really good looking prospect this season. Players naturally do more when they know starting berth is on the line. Was just a thought though mate, wasn't going fully into the ins and outs of FFP.

he can go anywhere he likes for me as long as we get top money we can. Butterfield coming or going isn't my main priority.
if impending ffp is the cause of all these shenanigans then there will be a load of protracted arseing about in plenty of deals..
im also not overly interested in what other clubs say about towns transfer dealings, they would all piss off anyone they could to get the best deal for themselves, so in the words of Sid Vicious 'fuck em'..

So just to clarify
Monday - Brighton in talks to sign AC Tuesday - Boro meet fee and ask him for medical town block it until they have a replacement Weds - Town wants Butterfield but he doesnt want us Thurs - Butterfield agrees to come for talks Fri- Butterfield agrees to sign. AC cleared to go for medical Sat - Brighton come in last minute AC refuses to join Boro and never turned up for his medical.
its like a Craig David song!
So if the Butterfield deal was done then town have both players on their books but are 800k ish down. Bet Deano has hit the roof

Someone send a 'Business for Dummies' textbook down to the stadium. This is embarrassing. Should have been sorted out weeks ago. 'The Yorkshire Club' have tarnished their own reputation. I'd be interested to hear why you think Clayton changing his mind at the last minute is the club's fault? Once the clubs agree a fee (and it this case it seems like Boro and Brighton both offered acceptable buds) then it's up to the player to decide which one ( if either) he wants to join. As far as I can recall Town have never announced that he was definitely signing for anyone. Maybe you could take a day off from your negative posting until this whole saga is complete and we actually know the whole story?

Can't blame the club for this.. we've seen how efficient and effective they are with pretty much all recent signings. What's probably happened all summer is that the club were simply going to keep him unless someone came in with a worthwhile offer. It's completely possible that we simply kept refusing offers until Boro eventually met our requirements, which only happened recently. It's just that Middlesborough's dealings are apparently open access to their local paper who have documented their every move, causing people to get all hyped up. Why is it when we're buying someone like Coady nobody knows about it until it's done, but when tinpot Middlesborough want to buy someone everybody knows about it? Maybe they're not as massive as they think they are and one positive of this whole mess is that their fans get slapped back to reality when a major target turns them down for a better club.

clayton is fully entitled to keep his options fully open until he puts pen to paper. it appears neither club has sufficiently impressed either him or deans valuation of him.
why anyone would want or expect dean to not go to the wire for the best deal for htfc, I really don't know.
being 'easy' to do business with has a range of meanings..lets hope in our case it means don't try pissing hoyle about he wont have it...

Tell you what it might teach Boro a lesson not to do their business so openly, stuff like this is bound to happen. Now if this effects the Butterfield deal it may seem disappointing, but if it means we have a bit more money for a striker or defender, it may not be so bad!

No discredit to Town at all in this. It appears Boro have done all the media leaking and will have the egg on their face if they miss out.
We accept the offers, it's up to the player and his agent to do the rest.
Odd how the Butterfield deal is so entwined. I'd guess the clubs were set for a joint announcement, as usual not a single leak from Town. Who knows what will happen with that now, as has been suggested he may well already have signed. I think it's been pretty clear that the 2 deals were separate, cash transactions not a player + cash deal.
Pretty sure, although town may worry short term, we will emerge the happiest of the clubs. Clayton will still be off the books imminently for a fee we are happy with.

Borough..... Chemical works, pollution, economic decline....
