Butterfield already signed. Boro shafted! :-) The deal hasn't been ratified though. Let this be a lesson - wait for an official announcement off HTAFC instead of going off a rumour on DATM. Most are true though.

Butterfield already signed. Boro shafted! :-) If true that would be quite amusing but suspect that is the last time we ever do business with Boro Don't see why. Boro will understand that none of this is Towns fault. Doubt they'd be sending Clayton and his agent a xmas card though.

Rumour that we've given up on Butterfield, and are now in the market for a Butterbean.....

Doubt they'd be sending Clayton and his agent a xmas card though. I don't think we'll want to do business with them. Leaking every scrap of news to their local rag is an annoying way to go about your business.

Why? We gave them permission to chat, they couldn't convince him to sign.

Seems the issue is with the player and his agent to me. Boro also have integrity issues in leaking all the info to the press. Doesn't happen when we sign someone.

Even if this was Claytons fault, it doesn't look great on us I dunno - it might be good to wait for all the facts to come out before suggesting any impropriety on our behalf. I for one am exceptionally proud of the way my club handles itself in matters such as this.

So no one at Town had any sort of inkling that Clayton had his heart set on Brighton?

It's the players individual decision, and if nothing happens he can choose to stay for his final year with us. As others have said, as the selling club it's our decision whether we want to keep him or sell. Once our valuation is met we allow the buying club to speak to the player and persuade him to join, it's not Town's fault Middlesborough couldn't do that. Now compare that to our recent signings and interviews with players and you'll see the difference between the clubs.

So no one at Town had any sort of inkling that Clayton had his heart set on Brighton? Who knows. I do remember hearing about two weeks ago that Clayton was telling both Boro and Brighton he wanted to come. Both clubs thoughts he wanted a move to them. Clearly a tactic to try to get the best possible deal for himself.

Borough..... Chemical works, pollution, economic decline.... Brighton.... Sun sea, nice area, nice stadium, good nightlife if your into it. No contest. Having spent the last 3/4 months in Middlesbrough, I'd rather play for Bradford...

True, I'd have thought with all the saga caused already with these transfers though that both clubs would have agreed they'd both officially sanction the transfers at the same time to make sure there were no more cock ups. Like you say though, only the clubs will know what's actually going on

Like you say though, only the clubs will know what's actually going on I would imagine you are right to be honest but when all the rumors came out yesterday that Butterfield had actually signed, I said at the time it would be hilarious if Clayton signed for Brighton. Having said that, I really just want the saga over with. Don't care anymore where he goes. He clearly does not want to be here so the sooner he is gone, at the highest possible price, the better. I wonder if Robins is still considering playing him LOL

To give a slight concession to Clayton, from a footballing point of view most people on here have been saying he would be better off going to Brighton over Boro. Maybe how he and his agent are going about engineering this is looking a mess but when more than just the straightforward buying and selling club are involved it was inevitable?

Maybe how he and his agent are going about engineering this is looking a mess but when more than just the straightforward buying and selling club are involved it was inevitable? I agree he would probably be better off at Brighton. The issue I think both Town and Boro have with this is that Clayton and his agent have been telling both clubs he wanted to go there. They allowed Town to go through the entire week negotiating with Boro and Butterfield to try to get this through and then when everything is agreed he does not show up for his medical. The person I feel sorry for in all this is Butterfield. He was happy at Boro, told he was not wanted, came and negotiated a deal with us, and now due to Clayton and his agent its all up in the air again. If the Butterfield deal does not happen he is going to be stuck at Boro, knowing they were willing to let him go. Awkward. I was on One Boro a few minutes ago just to see what they are saying and most do now want Clayton there now. They think they are being used to get him a better deal elsewhere. Their biggest worry is that the Butterfield deal may have gone through yesterday (I doubt that myself but we will see).

Nixon says both us and Middlesborough are fuming with Clayton. Deal was in place, walked out at the last minute, Butterfield deal was dependant on Clayton going there, will not let Butterfield leave now untill they have a replacement in place. A lot of angry people around!
Sounds like he's shafted both of us
