Seems a coincidence that it's happened exactly a year later. Perhaps I'm reading too much into that.
I definitely think they will sell more product having a town centre store and I'm sure the club have done their sums to know this will work out in their favour or they wouldn't open it.
In the run up to christmas (yes, it's nearly here!) they will get loads of extra trade that they wouldn't have got. How many people going Christmas shopping would have been bothered to make a special trip to the ground. How many would make the effort to walk down. Most people won't walk more than 5 minutes nowadays.

I work in the Town centre. I don't have time on my lunch break to walk down the Stadium and back as well as get everything else done that I'm meant to. The stadium store is closed before and after work. On a matchday I get to the ground 5 mins before kick off. I'll be using the Town centre store to get stuff for me and presents for friends. I daresay I won't be the only one in a similar position to this. The shop will get a lot more passing trade and income and hopefully because there are a few vacant units in the Pack Horse they will get a low enough rent to make it viable.
A problem with the other stores was that you couldn't get matchday tickets. I'd like to see this rectified and with so much of the work being computerised now I don't see what the problem with this is. People can print them off at home now so why not print them off in store for people who don't have that facility at home?

As an aside, I'm not "having a pop", just making an honest observation, as I always do. I assume you must have confused me with someone else, I'm a very positive supporter of Town. If anyone in Huddersfield has a clue about running a successful retail outlet, it's Dean Hoyle. Seems as though Town wanted out of the previous shared arrangement but not of the Town centre. In principle yes, but the Card Factory model was really about 'stack it high and sell it cheap'. decent quality at very discounted prices. Not sure the same theory will be put in practice here. My experience of club merchandise is the complete opposite- poor quality at very inflated prices. Think for it to be a real success that has to change.

The price is the problem, club merchandise is just too expensive.
Shirts at £40, plus another tenner if you want a number and name on the back, they should be f.o.c for gods sake!!
We actually asked the club to look at sourcing some scarves for the NSL and the best they could do were from China - 8 weeks delivery. The ones we are selling were ordered, and delivered within a fortnight, and were cheaper.

The new shop is the size of a shoe box! I didn't go in, I could see what they were selling from outside. Its is a decent idea to have a shop in the town centre though.

I agree it is on the small side, however it's about twice the size of the Cloth Hall street shop considering that was half taken up with The Giants wares.

Don't care how big it is at least it won't have any giants crap in there cluttering it up.
