I wish him the best but liken the situation to Lincoln appointing Town favourite Jacko, effectively we would be appointing Charlton favourite Chris Powell.
I obviously hope Powell has more success away from his fondest club than Jacko had with his.
NB I am NOT comparing their managerial abilities just the situations.

Jacko did pretty well at Lincoln. Managed to perform another great escape. I will be happy with Powell. Don't see why anyone wouldn't. Maybe not mine or anyone's number one choice, but at least it's not Pressley or Mowbray. Hope thie ends up being true and more importantly, people get behind him. Hoyle has picked the right managers before.

NB I am NOT comparing their managerial abilities just the situations. certainly are a few concerns that go with the positives of powell, but at least it sounds like the majority are keeping an open mind on him, and will give him an honest chance. for the only true measure will be the performance of the team under his leadership. that is IF he is appointed, as it still seems a bit open, with room even for a name not even mentioned to sneak in perhaps. the waiting is a bu**er though isn't it

Powell is decent man but inherently being a black coach is still a curse and he is also too quiet and for me is totally the wrong man. if the coulor of your skin is a curse god help us all. i would be happy with powell as i would with one or two more we are interested in.

still a middle aged to elderly white blokes occupation. which is odd looking at the make up of the teams..
everyone was excited to varying degrees about kluivert possibly coming here, his colour was never, ever even mentioned..
birkby bloke please take note..

some rave on the side of the pitch, some rave in private.. you can get results using either or neither.
passion for the game isn't necessarily making a song and a dance about it..
think we need to get some other posts on here and quick to shove the offending one right down the list..

It's interesting that he worked as a coach under three different managers at Leicester and was caretaker for a bit, so they must have rated him there - Pearson, Sousa, Sven. Like others was worried he'd only been at Charlton and had forgotten that part of his career. Looks one of the better options to me.

The more I read about him the more I think he could do a good job here... I also thought Robins could do a good job though so that rules out my opinion!

Winning a league with a 100+ points total suggests Powell knows how to motivate and get a decent team spirit going.

In addition to winning a league with in excess of 100 points, he led them to a comfortable finish of 9th in the Championship with a League 1 squad, with freebies and loans added.
I'd be happy if he's appointed.

The bottom line is whoever comes in will need full support because no one and i repeat no one knows how it will pan out but knowing the way some on here are they make a judgment straight away a bit like they do on players.LETS GET THE NEW MAM IN WHOEVER IT IS AND LET HIM GET ON WITH WHAT WILL BE A HARD TASK BUT ONE THAT IS CERTAINLY RETREVIABLE.

He doesn't strike me as a "motivator and a leader of men" as Dean put it.
I would very underwhelmed as I was with Robins if this happens.
Can't see anyone fitting the bill better than Lennon. (Although Kluivert would give the whole place a lift but is a VERY long shot.

I think as long as everybody gets behind the new manager whoever is appointed, then we will see the team and club benefit.
We're not miles off clicking as a team just need defence & attack sorted. IMO midfield is fine with Coady, Butterfield & Majewski in there.

Being a black manager is a curse, because it always gets drawn into the equation when discussing management candidates. Unfortunately, it's often propagated by pundits who proclaim to want to rid the sport of racism. Let's not overreact to mickeydombats post, I can see the angle he may be coming from. Powell would be a decent appointment in my opinion, he spoke at length about his sacking on talksport and there were a lot of factors that contributed to charlton being bottom when he was relieved of his duties. He's an intelligent and well spoken man, and destroyed league 1 with that charlton team.

''Powell was contacted by the club last Sunday so he was asked to apply...''
Total recipe for disaster - if he really wanted the job he would have applied - surely there are enough quality applicants without us having to go begging?
