So getting the tube from Kings cross to putney bridge and back on the same day. I've worked out which trains to get. But not being a regular undergrounder, whats the best ticket or tickets to get for the journeys?

possibly zone 1-2 day off peak travelcard. You can buy underground day tickets at Huddersfield Railway Station to cut down queuing in the smoke (other good Railway Stations also stock them)

would not bother with a travelcard if you are only making a trip to putney bridge and back. Tube now accept contactless debit cards which you can just flash at the gates. According to TFL website price is £2.20 one way therefore only £4.40 for return and if use your contactless card it will just debit your account. Also if you do use it more the amount you only pay per day is capped at £7.00 See link. www.tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/

I didn't know you could use contactless cards best to check your debit card actually has the symbol on it, and that your bank have 'enabled' it. The first time you use it you may need to enter your PIN, so perhaps have a go at a shop that takes contactless by making a small purchase (it's only valid forsmaller amounts I believe)..Once you've 'activated' it this way, future transactions should not need a PIN...but you don't want to be trying to use it for the first time at the tube station if you're worried about the 'tut tuts' from other passengers...
